Heavy rain, thunderstorms likely in Bihar over next 48 hours

The India Meteorological Department has issued weather alerts across several parts of Bihar, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning over the next 24 to 48 hours, with Patna among the districts expected to be affected.
The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for districts expected to receive heavy rainfall, including Patna, Rohtas, Nawada, and Kaimur (Bhabua). These areas may experience intense rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, with the possibility of localized flooding and traffic disruptions.
A Yellow Alert has also been issued for 13 districts, indicating the likelihood of moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning. The districts under alert include Patna, Gaya, Rohtas, Nawada, Kaimur (Bhabua), Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Buxar, Saran, Siwan, Vaishali, Samastipur, and Begusarai.
Residents in these areas have been advised to remain vigilant, especially during periods of intense rainfall and lightning activity. The Meteorological Department has warned that Patna may witness heavy showers and strong winds over the next two days.
People living in low-lying localities have been advised to stay alert as heavy rain could lead to waterlogging in several parts of the city. In response to the weather forecast, the Agriculture Department has advised farmers to take preventive measures to protect Kharif crops from waterlogging.
Officials have warned that prolonged rainfall could damage standing crops, particularly in low-lying agricultural areas around Patna and other affected districts. Following the weather alert, the Patna district administration has directed all concerned departments to inspect drainage systems and ensure they are functioning properly.
Emergency response teams have also been deployed in vulnerable locations to respond quickly to any rain-related incidents.
With the southwest monsoon remaining active over Bihar, the IMD has advised residents to stay updated with official weather forecasts, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain or thunderstorms, remain indoors during lightning activity, exercise caution in waterlogged and low-lying areas, and follow instructions issued by local authorities in case of severe weather.
Authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather situation and have urged citizens to remain prepared for possible disruptions due to heavy rainfall in the coming days.

My father is a farmer in Rohtas. He's worried about the kharif crops. The Agriculture Department's advice is good but they should also ensure compensation schemes are ready in case of damage. Farmers can't keep taking these losses.

Orange alert for Patna? Good that IMD is giving early warnings now. But I wish the municipal corporation would be proactive instead of reactive. Every year we see the same scenes on Boring Road and Fraser Road - waist-deep water. Hope this time is different.

Living in Kankarbagh, I can already see the dark clouds gathering. The emergency response teams deployment is good but honestly, the drainage system hasn't been cleaned since last year. Hope the district administration actually inspects and clears the nalas before it's too late.
