Haryana Announces Full Tax Exemption on Electric Vehicles Up to ₹30 Lakh

The Haryana Cabinet has approved a 100% exemption in motor vehicle tax for new pure electric vehicles with an ex-showroom price up to ₹30 lakh. Vehicles priced above ₹30 lakh will receive a 50% tax exemption. This decision fulfills a budget announcement made by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. The initiative aims to encourage EV adoption, reduce vehicular emissions, and improve air quality in the state.

Haryana grants motor vehicle tax exemption on electric vehicles up to Rs 30 lakh

New Delhi, July 28

In a major boost to clean and sustainable transportation, the Haryana Cabinet, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, has approved 100 percent exemption in Motor Vehicle Tax at the time of registration of new pure electric/battery-operated two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers having an ex-showroom price of up to Rs. 30 lakh, purchased and registered in the State. Besides this, vehicles costing above Rs. 30 lakhs will be eligible for tax exemption of 50 per cent.

The decision fulfils the announcement made by the Chief Minister in the Haryana Budget 2026-27, presented on March 2, 2026, to provide greater incentives for the adoption of electric vehicles and accelerate the transition towards cleaner and environment-friendly mobility across the State, a release said.

At present, Haryana provides a 20 per cent rebate in one-time Motor Vehicle Tax on the registration of electric/battery-operated vehicles and CNG vehicles. With the latest approval, the existing concession for eligible electric vehicles has been enhanced to a complete (100 per cent) exemption for new registrations of pure electric/battery-operated two-wheelers, three-wheelers (autos/e-rickshaws) and four-wheelers with an ex-showroom price of up to Rs. 30 lakh.

However, the existing 20 per cent rebate in one-time Motor Vehicle Tax for CNG vehicles will continue without any change.

The decision has been taken under the provisions of the Haryana Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 2016, under which the State Government is empowered to prescribe the rates of Motor Vehicle Tax for different categories of vehicles registered and operated in Haryana.

The enhanced tax exemption is expected to significantly encourage the purchase and registration of electric vehicles in the State by making them more affordable. The initiative will also contribute to reducing vehicular emissions, curbing pollution, improving air quality and promoting environmentally sustainable transport in Haryana.

This is excellent for our air quality in cities like Gurugram and Faridabad. The smog last year was unbearable. But I worry about the battery disposal and recycling—hope the government has a plan for that too. Clean mobility should be sustainable end-to-end.

Great move by CM Saini ji! But ₹30 lakh cap seems too low for four-wheelers. Many good EVs like the MG ZS EV or Tata Nexon are under that, but luxury ones like Kia EV6 miss out. Still, 50% for above ₹30 lakh is decent. Let's see how many people actually switch.

Perfect for two-wheeler commuters like me! I spend ₹3,000 per month on petrol for my scooter. If I switch to an electric, with tax exemption, it'll save even more. Haryana is finally catching up with Delhi and Maharashtra. Now if only they'd subsidize home chargers... 😅

Good policy, but let's be real—most people in rural Haryana can't afford EVs even with tax exemption. The real push should be for affordable e-rickshaws and public EV buses. Also, why only 20% for CNG? That's still a cleaner fuel. A step forward, but more needed.

Finally some good news from Haryana government! The pollution in Panipat and Sonipat is choking us. But please also improve public transport—not everyone can buy a car. More EV autos and buses would help everyone, not just car owners. Still, vah kya hai, achcha kadam hai! 👏
