Harbhajan discusses Punjab issues with HM Amit Shah
New Delhi, May 30
Former cricketer and BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh on Saturday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed issues related to Punjab's development and law and order.
In a message on X, Harbhajan Singh shared information about his meeting.
"Today, I met with the Hon'ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji in New Delhi. During this time, there was an extensive discussion on important issues related to Punjab, the state's development, public welfare, and further strengthening law and order," he said.
"At the same time, I urged for cooperation from the Central Government to protect the interests of Punjab and to advance the state's development," he said.
On a previous occasion, Harbhajan Singh had expressed concern about poor governance and corruption in Punjab.
"Punjab has been looted and devoured," said the cricketer-turned-politician in a message on X, hitting out at alleged supporters of AAP questioning his decision not to quit the Rajya Sabha before joining the BJP.
His meeting with HM Amit Shah on Saturday comes within weeks of the cricketer-turned-politician switching from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the BJP along with six other Rajya Sabha MPs.
In April, AAP's seven Rajya Sabha MPs, led by Raghav Chadha, defected from the AAP to the BJP, dealing a major blow to the AAP as its strength in the Upper House plunged from 10 to just three.
The other new entrants into the BJP included Ashok Mittal, Sandeep Pathak, Vikram Sahney, Swati Maliwal, and Rajinder Gupta.
Soon after joining the BJP, Chadha met President Droupadi Murmu regarding the alleged misuse of state resources by the AAP-led government in Punjab.
Chadha claimed that the Punjab government indulged in "political vendetta" by allegedly utilising police and administrative resources to target MPs who recently left AAP to join the BJP.

Honestly, I'm tired of these defections. AAP to BJP, BJP to AAP - it's all about power, not people. Punjab needs real solutions, not token meetings with Home Minister. 😑
If Harbhajan can bring Centre-state collaboration for Punjab's farmers and industry, this could be a game-changer. But let's see if it's just political drama or actual work. 🤔
It's embarrassing how our politicians switch parties like they change clothes. Harbhajan was once a sport star - now he's just another political pawn. Punjab deserves better leadership. 😤
This is classic Indian politics - celebrity joins party, meets big leader, makes promises. But central government has its own agenda. Let's hope Punjab's issues aren't just photo-op material. 🇮🇳
Finally someone from Punjab speaking up! Bhajji knows the state inside out - from farming troubles to drug issues. Hope he pushes for real action, not just empty words. 🙏
