Har Ghar Tiranga: V-P Radhakrishnan hoists Tricolour in Sri Vijaya Puram

Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, who is currently on a two-day visit to Andaman and Nicobar Islands, on Sunday hoisted the Tricolour at Flag Point in Sri Vijaya Puram, kicking off the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
Sri Vijaya Puram's Flag Point is the site where freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose hoisted the National Flag on December 30, 1943, declaring the Andaman and Nicobar Islands free from British rule.
Taking to X, the Vice President said, "Hoisted the National Flag at Flag Point, Sri Vijaya Puram, today under the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyaan, a historic site where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose hoisted the Tricolour on December 30, 1943, proclaiming the Andaman & Nicobar Islands free from British rule."
August 9 also marks Quit India Day, or August Kranti Diwas. This day is observed annually to remember the start of the Quit India Movement in 1942 -- a step that helped lead India to freedom in 1947.
Paying homage to the freedom fighters, Vice President Radhakrishnan said, "On Quit India Movement Day, I pay heartfelt tributes to the valiant freedom fighters who, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi Ji's clarion call of 'Do or Die', united the nation in the struggle for freedom. Their courage, sacrifice and patriotism continue to inspire generations."
The Vice President will also attend the State Function -- 'Tiranga Concert on Vande Mataram' at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT) Auditorium, said the statement. In the afternoon, the Vice President will visit the historic Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island.
Earlier on Saturday, Vice President Radhakrishnan visited the Cellular Jail National Memorial at Sri Vijay Puram, where he paid tributes at the Martyrs' Column, offered respects at the Swatantrata Jyoti, and visited Veer Savarkar's Cell.
Later, he also attended the light and sound show showcasing the saga of India's freedom movement and the sacrifices of the brave freedom fighters.

It's wonderful to see the Vice President honouring such a historic site. The Andaman Islands hold a special place in India's freedom struggle, and this event beautifully ties together the past and the present. Respect to all the martyrs!
The choice of Flag Point is perfect. Netaji's declaration on Dec 30, 1943, was a turning point. But I hope the government also focuses on preserving these heritage sites and sharing their stories with the younger generation. History shouldn't just be a spectacle.
Quit India Day and Netaji's legacy together make this a powerful moment. The Vice President's tribute is heartfelt. It's good to see our leaders connecting with the grassroots in such meaningful places. Kudos to the administration for organising this.
Visited Cellular Jail last year, and the feeling there is indescribable. The light and sound show is a must-watch. Glad the VP paid respects at Veer Savarkar's cell too. Every Indian should visit these sites at least once to understand our freedom's price. 🙏
While the symbolism is strong, I wish such events also included local islanders and their stories. The Andaman's indigenous communities and the freedom fighters' struggles are equally important. The flag sure, but let's also remember the people.
