Ahmedabad Flood Relief: 8,900 Food Packets Distributed, 50 Rescued Amid Heavy Rain

Gujarat: More than 8,900 food packets distributed, around 50 rescued in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, July 24

As heavy rainfall continued to affect Ahmedabad, civic authorities carried out food distribution in multiple localities where residents were impacted by waterlogging.

According to AMC, more than 8,900 food and snack packets were distributed on July 24. The largest distribution was carried out in Gota Housing, where 1,500 food packets were provided.

Another 1,100 food packets were distributed in Vastral, while 1,200 food and snack packets were supplied in Madhumalti in the East Zone.

Authorities also distributed 1,000 food packets in Asarwa, 700 food and snack packets in Viratnagar, 500 food packets each in Sarkhej, Shankar Bhuvan Chhapra, Gomtipur and Danilimda, and 500 snack packets each in Dudheshwar and Malav Talav.

A further 200 food packets were distributed in Gota Talav and another 200 in Nitinagar. Alongside relief efforts, Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services continued rescue operations in waterlogged areas of the city.

At Santosa Park on Sanalal Joshi Marg, fire personnel rescued around 35 residents after flooding affected the residential area.

The department said it had also rescued around 10 to 15 residents from the same location on the previous day, taking the total number of people evacuated from the society over two days to approximately 50.

The fire department said rescue teams responded with appropriate safety equipment and shifted all affected residents to secure locations. "Monitoring of rain-affected areas was continuing, and teams were being deployed immediately wherever assistance was sought," officials said.

In another operation, the fire department rescued 11 people stranded in Rabariwas in the Chharanagar area of Sabarmati after rising water levels surrounded their homes.

The rescue was launched after the Paldi Monsoon Control Room received information that residents had taken refuge on the roofs and terraces of their houses.

According to the fire department, rapidly rising water in the low-lying locality forced residents to seek higher ground before rescue teams reached the area.

All 11 people were evacuated safely without any reported loss of life and were later shifted either to their relatives or to safe locations.

Those rescued were identified as Dariyaben Rajput, 65; Devisinh Rajput, 72; Jebiba Devjibhai Nai, 75; Kulsinh Rajput, 21; Tanishaben Thakor, 35; Manavbhai Nai, 35; Priyansinh Nai, 18; Manishaben Nai, 37; Thakor Gomatiben, 55; Kamalaben Nai, 65; and Bachubhai Nai, 58.

The fire department said the timely receipt of information and a prompt response helped all 11 residents be rescued safely.

It added that Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services continues to carry out rescue and relief operations in rain-affected parts of the city as heavy rainfall persists.
