Gujarat Minister meets HM Shah in Delhi, discusses expansion of Ahmedabad Science City

New Delhi, Aug 14

Gujarat Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia has met the Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and discussed the proposed expansion of Ahmedabad's Science City, along with plans to strengthen the state's science, innovation and technology ecosystem.

During the meeting on Thursday, Modhwadia sought guidance on new projects and advanced facilities at Science City and on ways to provide richer scientific experiences for young people.

The discussions were held against the backdrop of Gujarat's efforts to expand its technology-oriented infrastructure, including work in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, cybersecurity and smart infrastructure.

People familiar with the meeting said the interaction focused on developing Science City further as part of a broader vision to establish Gujarat as a world-class hub for science, innovation and technology.

" Home Minister Amit Shah provided valuable guidance on the proposed projects, modern facilities and initiatives aimed at giving the younger generation greater exposure to science and technology," they added.

The meeting with Home Minister Shah comes days after Modhwadia met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on August 4.

According to reports from the meeting, Modhwadia met PM Modi at the Parliament House and expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for the Centre's approval of a mega shipbuilding project in Porbandar, expected to attract an investment of around Rs 27,500 crore.

Modhwadia has also previously highlighted the importance of central support for Gujarat's development projects.

In December 2025, he met PM Modi in New Delhi and said he received guidance on the Prime Minister's vision for a developed India by 2047 and Gujarat's development goals.

The Science City discussions also come at a time when Gujarat is expanding its focus on emerging technologies.

At the Viksit Gujarat Summit 2026, Modhwadia participated in discussions covering artificial intelligence, semiconductors, cybersecurity and smart infrastructure, with the state positioning technology and innovation as key areas of its development strategy.

Modhwadia, who is also state's Minister for Forest and Environment and Climate Change, has been serving as the Science and Technology Minister since October last year.

Good to see state and centre working together on such initiatives. But I hope the focus is not just on infrastructure, but also on improving the quality of science education in schools. That's where the real change begins.

Science City is a great place for kids. My family visits every time we go to Ahmedabad. Extension with AI and semiconductor exhibits will be really helpful for students. Looking forward to it!

Every state should have such science centres. This will definitely help in building a scientific temper among the youth. However, I hope the minister also pays attention to environmental concerns related to such large projects. Balance is key! 🌱

It's impressive how Gujarat is positioning itself as a tech hub. The collaboration between the state and central governments on projects like this is crucial for India's development. Looking forward to seeing the results!

Science City has been a pride of Ahmedabad for years. Expanding it with focus on AI and cybersecurity is a forward-thinking approach. But I'd also like to see more investment in fundamental research in universities. That's what sustains innovation in the long run.

Great to see ministers taking such initiatives seriously. Hope the new facilities are accessible to students from smaller towns too. Travel and entry costs can be a barrier for many talented kids
