The counting exercise covers elections held on April 26 for 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats and 260 taluka panchayats, as well as by-elections in 11 municipalities.

The results are being announced progressively from designated counting centres under the supervision of the State Election Commission.

Among major municipal corporation results declared so far, the BJP has won the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, securing 51 of 56 declared seats (including two unopposed), crossing the halfway mark in the 76-member body.

The BJP has also won the Navsari Municipal Corporation and Morbi Municipal Corporation, where it has maintained a clear majority as counting continues.

In the Porbandar Municipal Corporation, the party has secured all 34 declared seats, including 11 unopposed, out of 52 seats counted so far.

Interesting results from an outsider's perspective. The BJP's dominance in all types of local bodies - from urban corporations to village panchayats - suggests a very deep organizational strength. However, the Congress winning in Dabhoi with heavy Muslim voter support shows that minority communities are still looking for alternatives. Sad to see such a one-sided political landscape though, democracy thrives on competition.

As someone who voted in these elections, I must say the BJP's ground-level work is impressive. From the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana houses to the roads in our taluka, I can see visible development. But I do hope our municipal corporation focuses on basic civic issues like drainage and water supply rather than just making political statements. Local body elections should be about door-step governance, not national politics. Let's hold our leaders accountable now that they have the mandate.

Wow! BJP winning 115 out of 120 seats in Surat Municipal Corporation is just unbelievable! 😮 The Congress has become almost irrelevant in Gujarat urban local bodies. But I'm also noticing the opposition getting some seats in areas like Khambhat and Sojitra - that's healthy for democracy. My only concern: local governance can't be about just waving flags. The winning candidates need to deliver on waste management, streetlights, and education. That's what people really want, na? 🤔

The numbers speak for themselves: BJP with 6,800+ seats across categories while Congress struggles to cross even 1,500. This is a clear endorsement of the Modi-Shah leadership. But as a Gujarati, I'm a little worried about the lack of a strong opposition in local bodies. When one party dominates every tier of governance, where is the accountability? The Congress needs to seriously introspect if they want to remain relevant. Jab tak competition nahi hoga, janata ko suffer karna padega.
