Gujarat Launches e-Zero FIR for Cyber Fraud Victims

Gujarat Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi launched the 'Cyber Financial Fraud e-Zero FIR' service to simplify reporting. Complaints through the 1930 helpline will automatically generate an FIR, forwarded to the relevant police station. The system allows victims to register from home, speeding up investigations and money recovery. The first e-Zero FIR helped save over Rs 15.76 lakh for an Ahmedabad victim of a digital arrest scam.

Gujarat launches 'Cyber Financial Fraud e-Zero FIR' service; victims can register complaints from home

Gandhinagar, July 27

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Monday launched the 'Cyber Financial Fraud e-Zero FIR' service in Gandhinagar to facilitate faster registration and investigation of cyber financial fraud cases, enabling victims to initiate the process without visiting a police station.

According to an official release from the Gujarat Chief Minister's Office (CMO), complaints registered through the national cybercrime helpline 1930 will now automatically generate an e-Zero FIR, which will be forwarded to the concerned police station, enabling legal action to begin at the earliest.

Speaking on the occasion, Sanghavi said the state government is continuously using technology to provide faster and more transparent police services to citizens. He said the e-Zero FIR system will allow victims of cyber fraud to register complaints from home while enabling quicker action to improve the chances of recovering the lost money.

The release said Director General of Police Gyanendra Singh Malik has instructed all field units to handle such cases with seriousness and sensitivity and ensure speedy justice for complainants.

Inspector General of Police, Cyber Centre of Excellence, Bipin Ahire said the e-Zero FIR process has been implemented in coordination with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. He said complaints of cyber financial fraud received through the 1930 helpline will automatically generate a Zero FIR, which will then be forwarded to the concerned police station. Police officers will subsequently contact the complainant, obtain the necessary details, register the FIR as per the prescribed procedure and immediately initiate the investigation.

According to the release, the state's first e-Zero FIR was registered by an Ahmedabad resident who allegedly became a victim of cyber fraud under the pretext of a digital arrest. Based on the e-Zero FIR, the Cyber Crime Department took prompt action and successfully saved more than Rs 15.76 lakh belonging to the complainant.

This is excellent news! I'm an NRI living in Canada, and my parents in Ahmedabad nearly lost Rs 2 lakh to a courier scam last year. The 1930 helpline saved them then, but this e-zero FIR system sounds even better. Makes me feel safer knowing they can report from home and money can be frozen quickly.

A step in the right direction, but the real challenge is execution. Many police stations in rural Gujarat still lack basic digital infrastructure. Also, victims need to be educated about 1930 itself. Will the system work when a housewife in a village calls? Hope the government invests in awareness campaigns alongside this tech.

👀 "Digital arrest" scams are so common in India now. Proud of how quickly the Cyber Crime Department saved Rs 15.76 lakh in the first case itself. That's someone's entire life savings. Hope this speed becomes the norm, not just the exception. Good job, Gujarat Police!

My father was a victim of a fake KYC fraud last month. He had to run from pillar to post, file complaints at multiple places, and still hasn't recovered a penny. If this system had been there, things might have been different. But I'm still skeptical — will police really follow up seriously or just file the FIR and forget? Let's see the ground reality.

Great initiative! But what about cyber frauds that happen through UPI, online shopping, or job scams? Does this cover all types? Also, the real test will be how quickly banks respond once the complaint is registered. Still, credit to Gujarat government for trying to make things
