Gujarat Dy CM visits flood-hit industrial areas in Surat, orders restoration measures

Sanghavi inspected Maruti Industrial Estate in Pandesara and the Millennium Textile Market near Kamela Darwaja, where factories and commercial establishments were inundated after heavy rain led to widespread waterlogging across parts of the city and adjoining industrial belts.

During the visit, the Deputy Chief Minister met industrialists and traders to assess the extent of damage to factories, machinery and goods, and to understand the disruption to production and business activities caused by the flooding.

He instructed the concerned departments to ensure the rapid clearance of accumulated water, the restoration of basic infrastructure and utilities, and the resolution of issues raised by affected industrial units without delay.

"The state government stands with the affected industrialists and is taking all necessary steps to help industrial activities return to normal at the earliest," Sanghavi said during the inspection.

His visit came as the district administration intensified relief and damage assessment efforts across the city following the heavy rains.

Earlier in the day, Surat District Collector Tejas Parmar deployed 227 officers and employees in 41 teams to conduct door-to-door surveys in flood-affected localities.

The teams have been tasked with assessing damage to homes and property to facilitate the distribution of government assistance, including cash doles and household relief.

According to the district administration, by afternoon, relief amounting to Rs 35.21 lakh had been distributed to 1,185 affected residents.

This included Rs 11 lakh in cash doles for 701 beneficiaries and Rs 24.20 lakh in household assistance for 484 people, with further payments to be released as surveys are completed.

The Deputy Chief Minister's inspection focused on the industrial sector, which forms a major part of Surat's economy and was among the worst affected by waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Authorities have begun restoration work while continuing relief operations in residential neighbourhoods and conducting damage assessments across the city.

MLA Manu Patel, Surat Mayor Maya Mavani, District Collector Tejas Parmar, Police Commissioner (In-charge) Wabang Jamir, officials of the Surat Municipal Corporation, public representatives and industrialists accompanied Sanghavi during the visit.
