Gujarat Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi inaugurates Ahmedabad's new RTO office

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed Regional Transport Office in Ahmedabad, as per the release.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy CM said that, "the State Government is committed to delivering technology-driven, transparent and efficient public services." He stated that the new RTO office will make services, including the issuance of driving licences, more accessible, efficient and convenient for citizens.
Deputy CM Sanghavi further stated that the automated driving test track will ensure complete transparency in the driving licence process, with licences issued only to eligible applicants. He also stressed the need for close coordination between public representatives and the administration to ensure that government services reach every eligible citizen.
Urging citizens to maintain the cleanliness and orderly functioning of the new RTO office, Deputy CM said that protecting and preserving public infrastructure is the shared responsibility of every citizen.
According to the Gujarat Chief Minister's Office (CMO), it was constructed by the Ports and Transport Department of the Government of Gujarat, the new Regional Transport Office (RTO) at Subhash Bridge, Ahmedabad, is equipped with modern facilities.
The office has dedicated counters for transport and non-transport vehicle services, new vehicle registration, permits, fitness certificates, blacklist-related services, driving licences, the DL/Challan branch, RMA, AMC tax and cash services.
The release stated that these facilities will enable citizens to access multiple services at a single location in a more convenient, efficient and transparent manner.
On this occasion, Minister of State for Urban Development Darshna Vaghela, Mayor Hitesh Barot, MP Dinesh Makwana, City BJP President Prerak Shah, MLAs Jitendra Patel (Bhagat), Amit Thaker, Kaushik Jain, Harshad Patel, Hasmukh Patel and Babubhai Patel, Principal Secretary, Ports and Transport Department, Hareet Shukla, Transport Commissioner Rajender Kumar, senior departmental officials, dignitaries and citizens.

Good initiative but let's be honest - making a new building is the easy part. The real test will be when common people like auto drivers and farmers go there. Will the staff actually be helpful? Will there be enough counters? I've seen too many 'state-of-the-art' government offices become dysfunctional within months. Hope the cleanliness appeal reaches everyone, including the staff who often treat citizens rudely.
As someone who recently got their DL in Ahmedabad, this is great news! The old RTO was a nightmare - cramped, chaotic, and took forever. 🚗 The mention of single-window services for new registration and permits is a game changer. But I hope they've also thought about good parking space and waiting areas. Visiting RTO is usually a whole day affair, and proper facilities matter a lot. Kudos to the state government for this!
It's refreshing to see infrastructure development that focuses on citizen convenience. The automated test track is particularly interesting - in Western countries, driving tests are strictly monitored. If implemented properly, this could significantly reduce bribery and corruption in DL issuance. I'm curious about the technology they're using. Is it similar to what's used in Singapore or Dubai? Would love more details on the automation system.
One step forward, but we need ten more! 😅 I appreciate the sentiment about cleanliness and coordination, but these RTOs are just symptom of a bigger problem. Why can't most services be fully online? In many Indian states now, you can renew DL and pay taxes from home. Gujarat should aim for 90% digital services. A fancy building won't matter if we still have to physically go for every minor issue. Let's make RTO visits truly 'zero' for routine work.
