Gujarat CM orders daily monitoring of petrol, diesel stocks to prevent supply disruptions

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel orders daily monitoring of petrol and diesel stocks via control room to prevent supply disruptions amid fuel shortage concerns.

"After reviewing the available stock of petrol and diesel in the state, the Chief Minister directed that daily monitoring be carried out through the control room and that supply arrangements be ensured as required. - Jitu Vaghani"

Gandhinagar, May 15

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has ordered daily monitoring of petrol and diesel stocks through a control room mechanism, with directions to officials to maintain uninterrupted fuel supplies across the state.

The instructions were issued during a cabinet meeting chaired by Patel in Gandhinagar on Friday after a review of fuel availability and supply arrangements in the state.

Government spokesperson and minister Jitu Vaghani said the chief minister had instructed authorities to closely monitor fuel stocks every day and maintain adequate supply systems so that citizens do not face inconvenience.

"After reviewing the available stock of petrol and diesel in the state, the Chief Minister directed that daily monitoring be carried out through the control room and that supply arrangements be ensured as required," Vaghani said.

The decision comes amid heightened attention on fuel availability in several parts of the country following geopolitical tensions in West Asia and recent rumours regarding shortages.

Last month, long queues were reported at several petrol pumps in Gujarat after social media messages triggered panic buying, though authorities and oil companies stated that "fuel stocks were sufficient".

The Union government has also repeatedly said that adequate stocks of petrol, diesel and LPG are available across the country.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas earlier stated that a 24x7 control room had been established to monitor petroleum product supplies and stock positions nationwide.

According to the Centre, state governments are expected to play a key role in monitoring supply conditions and preventing hoarding or black marketing of essential commodities, including petroleum products.

The state government's latest directive aims to strengthen local monitoring mechanisms and avoid disruptions during periods of increased demand or public concern.

Vaghani said the chief minister had stressed that fuel supply management should remain proactive, with officials maintaining regular oversight through the control room system.

The cabinet meeting also reviewed broader administrative matters and public welfare initiatives.

Ministers congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the successful completion of his Gujarat visit on May 10 and 11, during which several public events were organised in the state.

The state government did not announce any restrictions on fuel sales, but officials reiterated that supply chains remain operational and that citizens should not face difficulties in obtaining petrol or diesel under normal conditions.

Good move by CM Bhupendra Patel. But I hope this daily monitoring actually translates to action on ground. We've seen many orders that remain on paper only. Let's see if petrol pumps stop creating artificial scarcity now. 🤔

As someone who travels frequently between Gujarat and other states, I've noticed fuel prices are creeping up everywhere. Daily monitoring is fine, but what about price control? Common man is struggling with inflation. Petrol and diesel rates need more attention.

The control room idea is nice but who will be monitoring the monitors? We need transparency in fuel supply chain. Just last week I saw a petrol pump in Ahmedabad asking customers to come back later despite having stocks. Black marketing is real yaar. 😠

Hats off to CM for taking this seriously before elections. But genuine question - why did panic buying happen in first place? Social media rumours spread like wildfire. Need to tackle misinformation too, not just monitor stocks. Aur kya hoga?

Seems like a sensible precaution given the geopolitical situation. But I wish states would focus more on renewable energy alternatives rather than just managing fossil fuel crises. Better late than never though. Good initiative.

Meanwhile in rural Gujarat, many villages still struggle with fuel availability because of long distances to petrol pumps.
