Gujarat CM to lead state-level yoga day event tomorrow
Gandhinagar, June 20
The state-level celebration of the 12th 'International Yoga Day' will be held at Mansa in Gandhinagar district in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday, marking a large-scale participation drive across the state with coordinated events at urban and rural levels.
The main programme will take place at Sheth L.S. Science College in Mansa, where more than 4,000 citizens are expected to take part in a collective yoga session.
The event will also feature senior state officials and is intended to reflect the wider statewide mobilisation planned for the occasion.
Across Gujarat, more than one crore citizens are expected to participate in Yoga Day activities at various locations.
Collective yoga sessions will be organised across all 17 municipal corporations, 33 districts, and at taluka, municipality, and village levels, ensuring participation across administrative divisions.
"The initiative has been structured to involve coordinated efforts at every level of local governance," officials said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join the celebrations from Kolkata and address the nation.
This year's global theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing", serves as the basis for the observance, focusing on promoting physical and mental well-being through regular yoga practice across age groups.
Officials said that district collectors, municipal commissioners, and various committees, in coordination with social organisations, are working to ensure smooth organisation of events across the state.
Preparations are being overseen at multiple administrative levels to facilitate mass participation and logistical arrangements for the large-scale gatherings.
The programme in Mansa is expected to serve as the focal point of Gujarat's observance of the International Yoga Day, with simultaneous events across urban centres and rural areas reflecting the scale of participation planned for the day.
"The coordinated statewide activities aim to bring together citizens from diverse communities in collective yoga practice as part of the global observance," officials added.

Interesting to see how Yoga Day is being celebrated on such a massive scale in Gujarat. The "Yoga for Healthy Ageing" theme is particularly relevant as we're all living longer and need ways to stay healthy. Hope the turnout is as impressive as promised.
I appreciate the government's efforts to organize these events, but I hope the focus remains on actual yoga practice and not just political photo ops. Also, it would be great if they could ensure proper guidance from qualified yoga instructors for all participants, especially in rural areas where resources might be limited.
Yog diwas par Gujarat mein itna bada aayojan - yeh humare pradhanmantri Modi ji ke vision ko dikhata hai. Lekin kya sach mein sabhi jagah proper management hoga? 33 districts aur 17 municipal corporations mein coordination mushkil hai. Umeed hai ki sab theek se hoga.
This is impressive logistical planning - coordinating 1 crore+ participants across so many administrative levels is no joke. The theme of healthy aging is smart too, especially given India's demographic trends. Would be interesting to see if this generates any long-term increase in regular yoga practice.
Mansa mein 4000 log, pure Gujarat mein 1 crore se zyada - yeh aankde dekhkar man khush ho jata hai! Yoga sirf exercise nah
