Gujarat CM directs statewide grievance list, action plan for swift resolution of public complaints

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel directs officials to compile a comprehensive grievance list from village to state level for immediate resolution, improving administrative efficiency.

Gandhinagar, April 29

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday directed senior officials to prepare a comprehensive list of public grievances from the village level to the state level and formulate an action plan for their swift resolution.

Briefing the media after a Cabinet meeting, government spokesperson and Minister Jitu Vaghani said the instructions have been issued to ensure that citizens' complaints are systematically compiled and addressed through a structured administrative process.

"The objective is to strengthen grievance redressal mechanisms and improve coordination across government departments for the timely resolution of issues," he noted.

He stated that the directive follows the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s strong performance in the recent local self-government elections in Gujarat.

According to him, the state government views the electoral mandate as a responsibility to further enhance governance and administrative efficiency.

Vaghani said: "During the election period, the Chief Minister, ministers and elected representatives carried out extensive public outreach across the state, during which citizens raised a wide range of local issues, administrative concerns and expectations from the government."

These inputs, he said, are now being formally consolidated for action.

Quoting the Chief Minister's instructions, Vaghani said, "The Chief Minister has instructed that a detailed list of citizens' grievances from the village level to the state level be prepared and an action plan be formulated for their immediate resolution."

He added that senior officials have been tasked with ensuring that all complaints are properly recorded, categorised and addressed within a defined timeframe.

He said the emphasis is on ensuring transparency in administration and efficiency in service delivery at every level.

Vaghani further said, "The government machinery will work under the Chief Minister's leadership to ensure effective resolution of public grievances, while continuing to focus on development and governance across rural and urban areas of the state."

Finally an effort to streamline public complaints! As someone who has dealt with water supply issues in our area for months, I know how frustrating it can be when there's no proper system. If they really categorize and address within a timeframe, it will be a game-changer for common people.

This sounds great on paper. But as an observer of Indian governance, I'm curious how the state plans to ensure transparency in the actual process. Will there be an online portal or mobile app where citizens can track their complaints? Without digital tracking, it's hard to measure efficiency.

As a Gujarati, I appreciate the intent but am skeptical. We have seen many 'action plans' before. Remember the 'Gujarat Gaurav' initiative? It fizzled out. The key is to involve local sarpanches and ward members who actually know the ground reality. Top-down lists often miss real issues.

This is a positive step after the local election win. But I wonder: will the same priority be given to complaints from opposition-ruled municipalities? The minister mentioned BJP's performance - hope this doesn't become about rewarding only BJP supporters. Grievance redressal should be non-political. 🤔

Good governance begins with listening to people. The fact that CM Patel is personally directing this shows seriousness. But I hope they specifically address rural infrastructure - roads, electricity, and healthcare in villages remain major concerns despite Gujarat being a developed state. Let's track progress!
