Govinda hails "new vision" for Mumbai after BJP-Shinde Sena BMC win

Actor-politician Govinda reacts to BMC results, hailing a positive atmosphere for progress and good governance in Mumbai under the new alliance.

"This is a new vision where the world would recognise the state in the form of its growth and functions. - Govinda"

Mumbai, January 18

Reacting to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation election results, actor and Shiv Sena leader Govinda on Sunday shared his vision for the overall development and growth of Mumbai, emphasising the need for good governance and sustained progress.

Speaking to ANI, Govinda stressed the importance of good governance, stating that the city's progress must remain the foremost priority.

"I believed that this government would win, and I want Mumbai to move forward toward progress. The way other cities have been developing side-by-side, Mumbai should move in the same direction. This is a new vision where the world would recognise the state in the form of its growth and functions, the same way the world has acknowledged our cinema, art and culture," the actor said.

Earlier this month, Govinda actively campaigned for the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in the BMC elections, seeking public support.

Govinda rode through Mumbai's Kamathipura in an open jeep as part of the campaign. Large crowds gathered on the streets to see him, take pictures, and cheer for the actor.

While speaking to ANI, Govinda explained why people from the film industry should take an interest in politics and public life. He also shared how he feels the atmosphere has changed in recent years, making people from the creative field feel more secure.

"Good art cannot flourish unless there is a good atmosphere. After so many years, we are now seeing a positive atmosphere. Otherwise, with a famous name, respect, fame, wealth, we've seen all sorts of troubles connected to these," he told ANI.

"Since this government came to power, it now feels like we can move forward, we can work, and there won't be troubles. We've come out of this fear, and the current government has played a big role in helping us with that," he added.

According to official figures released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the BMC, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single-largest party, winning 89 seats.

Its alliance partner, the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, secured 29 seats with 2,73,326 votes, translating into 5.00 per cent of the total vote share. Together, the BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde) alliance emerged as the largest bloc in the civic body.

Govinda makes a good point about artists feeling secure. The creative industry is a huge part of Mumbai's identity and economy. A stable, supportive environment is crucial. Hope this translates into more support for local arts and culture, not just Bollywood.

Celebrities jumping into politics for visibility is an old story. I'll believe in this "new vision" when I see actual, measurable improvements on the ground. The BMC has a massive budget; let's see if it's used efficiently now. Actions, not words.

As someone who moved to Mumbai for work, the comparison to other developing cities is apt. The potential here is enormous, but governance has been a bottleneck. Hoping for a cleaner, more organized city that lives up to its financial capital status.

The alliance has a clear majority. No more excuses for policy paralysis. Priority number one should be solving the water crisis and managing floods during monsoon. We've suffered enough.

It's interesting to see a celebrity speak about governance beyond just rallies. His point about "good atmosphere" is subtle but important. Feeling safe to work and express oneself is fundamental for any city's growth, not just for artists. Fingers crossed! 🙏
