Surat/Gandhinagar, April 30 Surat will host the state-level celebrations of Gujarat Gaurav Diwas on May 1, marking the state's Foundation Day with a series of official programmes, cultural presentations, and public events involving senior state leadership and officials.

The observance will begin at 5 p.m. with a police parade organised from Y-Junction near VR Mall to Lalbhai Contractor Stadium.

Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, along with other ministers and officials, are expected to attend the event.

Their arrival will be marked by a bugle call, pipe band performance, and escort by a horse-mounted squad, followed by the national anthem and formal reporting by the parade commander.

The parade will include a march past, cultural performances by women participants, and a motorcycle stunt display as part of the scheduled programme.

Arrangements have been made to facilitate public viewing along the route, with large attendance expected.

In the evening, a cultural programme will be held at Dumas Seaface at 8 p.m.

Collector Dr Saurabh Pardhi and Municipal Commissioner Dr M. Nagarajan will receive the Governor, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and other dignitaries at the venue.

The programme will be presented on the theme "Proud Gujarat, From Heritage to Development" and will run for around 50 minutes.

More than 250 artists are scheduled to participate, presenting a theatrical depiction of Surat's development journey from its historical background to its present-day growth, supported by light and sound arrangements.

During the ceremony, recipients of the Gujarat Garima Award, along with other distinguished individuals from the district, will be felicitated by the Governor and Chief Minister.

Two publications documenting the development of the Surat district, titled 'Vikas Vatika' and a coffee table book, will also be released.

As part of the preparations for the state-level observance, government and heritage buildings across Surat have been illuminated.

The lighting arrangements have created a citywide atmosphere of celebration, with officials noting a festive environment across several areas.

The events are part of the state's Foundation Day observance being held in Surat through coordinated cultural and administrative programmes across the day.

I appreciate the cultural events and the recognition of achievers through the Garima Award. But I hope the government also focuses on the issues that common people face daily—potholes, traffic, and water supply in some areas. A development story should include grassroots improvements too.

Sounds like a well-organized event. The heritage buildings being illuminated must look beautiful. I lived in Gujarat for a few years and always felt the state has a unique blend of tradition and modernity.

Over 250 artists performing—that's amazing! And releasing books documenting development is a nice touch. But I wish more focus was on preserving heritage alongside the development. So many old buildings in Surat are being lost to new constructions 😔

Surat is the diamond city and a textile hub, so it's fitting for the state-level celebrations. The horse-mounted squad and bugle call add a touch of tradition. Just hope the traffic is managed well for the public near Y-Junction! 🚗🚦
