Ghalibaf claims US put regional allies at risk "for the sake of Israel"
Tehran, August 22
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has claimed that the US put the security of "every single one of its allies" at risk for the "sake of Israel."
In a post on X, Ghalibaf stated that Washington's actions which he described as "bullying and pure disregard" have pushed regional partners to the point that endangered their "entire existence."
"The United States put the security of every single one of its allies at such risk through bullying and pure disregard for their interests for the sake of Israel that they briefly saw their entire existence on the line," he wrote.
He further disclosed that Tehran has received communications from neighboring countries exploring the establishment of new security arrangements.
"We've received numerous messages from neighboring countries about shaping new security arrangements and economic cooperation in the region," he wrote.
Highlighting the need for a geopolitical shift away from Western oversight, Ghalibaf emphasised the importance of regional autonomy.
"A homegrown, independent order is what will actually deliver peace and security," he added.
On the other hand, United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Oman's Ambassador to the United States, Talal Al Rahbi, in Washington, DC to discuss issues of mutual interest and reaffirm strong bilateral cooperation.
According to a statement shared by the Oman Embassy on X, the meeting took place on the sidelines of an event organized by the US Department of State at the United States Institute of Peace.
During their conversation, Ambassador Al Rahbi and Secretary Rubio commended the enduring partnership between the Sultanate of Oman and the United States, underscoring the necessity of continued coordination to address shared regional challenges.
The high-level diplomatic engagement follows heightened tensions surrounding the strategic Strait of Hormuz, stemming from ongoing regional navigation talks and discussions between Oman and Iran regarding safe commercial shipping lanes.
This came after US President Donald Trump warned Oman on Monday against interfering in Washington's position on the Strait of Hormuz, saying the United States would take military action if Muscat obstructs efforts related to the strategic waterway, amid ongoing Iran-Oman talks on ensuring safe commercial navigation.
During a phone call with Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst, Trump discussed the situation with Iran as the 60-day memorandum of understanding signed in June to open negotiations aimed at ending the conflict in West Asia approached its deadline.
Asked about parallel talks between Iran and Oman over control of the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said, "If Oman gets in the way, we'll bomb the sh out of them."
Trump also said Iran should "raise the white flag of surrender" while adding that he had "no time schedule".
"I'm not in a hurry," the US President said.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington.
