Namibia's Gerhard Erasmus Joins Elite T20 WC Captain-Bowlers Club

Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus entered the record books by taking a four-wicket haul against India, becoming only the fourth men's captain to do so in T20 World Cup history. He joins an elite list featuring Rashid Khan, Daniel Vettori, and Zeeshan Maqsood, with Rashid being the only captain to accomplish this twice. India posted a strong total of 209/9, powered by quickfire half-centuries from Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya. New Delhi, February 12

Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus became the fourth skipper to pick four wicket hauls in the history of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

The Namibia captain achieved this milestone during their Group A match against the defending champions India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday.

Before the Namibia captain, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan, who scalped 4/17 against New Zealand in the 2024 edition, and former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori, who picked up 4/20 against India in 2007.

Oman's Zeeshan Maqsood, who took 4/20 against Papua New Guinea in 2001, and Rashid, who took 4/23 against Bangladesh in the 2024 edition, have etched their names in the elite list.

Rashid is the only skipper to achieve this feat twice.

Meanwhile, India posted a commanding total of 209/9 against Namibia after being asked to bat first.

Thanks to a whirlwind 61 from Ishan Kishan and late fireworks from Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube that helped the defending champions cross the 200-run mark.

Despite some late hiccups, the Men in Blue managed to navigate the Namibian bowling attack, led by captain Gerhard Erasmus, who claimed a four-wicket haul to keep the contest alive.

The Namibia captain took the key wickets of wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan (61 off 24 balls), Tilak Varma (25 off 21 balls), Hardik Pandya (52 off 28 balls), and Axar Patel (0).

Happy for his achievement, but our batting was a bit reckless in the middle overs, no? Giving away 4 wickets to a part-time bowler captain... Need to be more careful in the knockouts. Still, well played Team India! 💙

Interesting stat! Rashid Khan being the only one to do it twice shows his absolute class. The game is truly global now, with captains from Namibia, Oman, and Afghanistan on this list. Great for cricket.

Ishan Kishan's 61 off 24 was pure fire! 🔥 Sad he got out to Erasmus, but what an innings. And Hardik Pandya finishing strong... 209 is a winning total any day. On to the next match!

Respect to Gerhard Erasmus. Leading from the front when your team is up against the champions. That's captaincy. Hope Namibia gets more exposure and matches against top teams.

The article says Zeeshan Maqsood did it in 2001? The first T20 World Cup was in 2007. Might be a small error there, but the overall achievement by these captains is fantastic.
