Srinagar, July 7

Chief of Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth on Tuesday made his maiden visit to Jammu and Kashmir and called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to review the prevailing security situation in the union territory.

Officials said General Seth called on the J&K L-G at Lok Bhavan. The J&K L-G and the Army Chief reviewed the prevailing security situation in the region.

The Army Chief was accompanied by Lieutenant General Balbir Singh, GOC Chinar Corps.

General Seth arrived in J&K today, marking his first official visit to the region since taking over the command of the Indian Army.

He met with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during the initial leg of his visit.

The high-level meeting focused on reviewing the prevailing security landscape across the union territory. The COAS was accompanied by high-ranking military officials, including Lt Gen Balbir Singh, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps (15 Corps), and several other senior Army commanders overseeing operational readiness in the valley.

Following his political interactions, General Seth is scheduled to proceed to forward deployments along the Line of Control (LoC) and counter-insurgency grids. This tour holds immense significance as it allows the new Army Chief to directly assess border security strategies and evaluate active counter-terror frameworks under his newly introduced operational doctrine, "VIJAY".

General Seth is a four-star general officer in the Indian Army, the highest active rank in the Indian Army. He is the current and 31st Chief of the Army Staff. He previously served as the 49th Vice Chief of the Army Staff.

He earlier served as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern and South Western Commands, as the General Officer Commanding Delhi Area, and as the General Officer Commanding XXI Corps. He is also the Colonel of the Regiment of the Armoured Corps.

COAS meeting with CM Omar Abdullah is a positive sign - shows civil-military coordination. But let's be honest, security alone won't solve J&K's issues. Need to balance development and dialogue too. Just my two paise.

Interesting move by General Seth to visit forward deployments along the LoC right after meeting political leaders. Strong signal of proactive leadership. The "VIJAY" doctrine sounds ambitious - hope it delivers results.

Respect to General Seth for visiting the ground zero. But I wish more attention was given to the humanitarian situation in border areas - shelling and cross-border firing disrupt lives of ordinary Kashmiris. Security is important but so is peace. 🤔

First visit as COAS to J&K - classic military tradition. The "VIJAY" doctrine sounds like a strategic shift. Let's hope it effectively counters cross-border terrorism while minimizing collateral damage. Tough balancing act.
