Rajnath Singh: BrahMos Missile Production Begins in Lucknow, New Road Eases Traffic

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that BrahMos missiles have begun manufacturing in Lucknow, boosting national defence capabilities. He also highlighted the construction of a 104-105 km four-lane road around the city to reduce traffic congestion. Singh noted these initiatives stem from his role as Lucknow's MP since 2014. He deferred to public judgment on overall regional development progress.

Four-lane road built to ease traffic congestion, BrahMos manufacturing began in Lucknow: Rajnath Singh

Lucknow, June 7

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that BrahMos missiles began to be manufactured in Lucknow as part of efforts to strengthen the country's defence capabilities and contribute to the region's development.

Interacting with BJP's Cantonment Mandal members in Lucknow, Singh said that in his capacity as Defence Minister, he sought to ensure that Lucknow played a role in bolstering national security.

"After that, many tasks kept happening, and since I have the responsibility of the Ministry of Defence--to maintain the nation's security, honour, and self-respect equally--from that perspective, I said that something should happen here, and BrahMos missiles began to be manufactured on the land of Lucknow," he said.

The Defence Minister also highlighted development initiatives undertaken in Lucknow since he became the city's Member of Parliament in 2014, particularly efforts aimed at easing traffic congestion.

"When I became an MP for the first time in 2014, the thought that came to my mind while I was contesting the election was that the traffic jam problem in Lucknow is the most serious issue. What could be the solution to this? So, the first task I undertook was that a four-lane road of about 104-105 km should be built around the Lucknow metropolitan area. If all the vehicles coming from outside pass through there, then naturally, the traffic in the city will decrease. That was the first thing I did," Singh said.

Commenting on the overall development of the region, Singh said the public was best placed to assess the work carried out over the years.

"As far as the development of the region is concerned, there is no need for me to tell you; you all know it very well, and I do not see any justification in discussing it. If the public feels that it has happened, then I will also accept that it has happened. If you feel that it has not happened, then I will also accept that it has not happened," he added.

Good to see Lucknow getting a share of national defence projects. But the road is just 104 km around the city? Most of my colleagues in Gomti Nagar still spend 2 hours daily in traffic 😤. Need more feeder roads and better public transport. Hope Rajnath Ji listens to public feedback!

As an NRI, I'm impressed by the defence manufacturing push in small cities. BrahMos is a world-class missile—starting production in Lucknow shows India's Make in India vision working. But generating jobs isn't the same as generating prosperity. Hope the local economy sees real benefits, not just political mileage.

Rajnath Singh's statement about public being the best judge is wise—aapne isliye theek hai ki agar logon ko lagta hai ki hua, toh hua. But the four-lane road around Lucknow? I drive on it daily. It's decent but needs better lighting and service roads. And BrahMos manufacturing—kudos! But let's also fix basic civic issues like drainage in old city areas.

Impressive that a Defence Minister focuses on local infrastructure too. The 104-km ring road concept is clever—diverting long-distance traffic reduces inner-city congestion. But one road isn't enough; Lucknow needs a Metro Phase 2 and better bus services. Hope Rajnath Ji uses his influence to fast-track these projects! 🚌🚇

BrahMos in Lucknow! I'm proud as a local—this shows our city is becoming a defence hub. But the road project took years? I remember my
