Football: Sevilla sign Scottish forward Robbie Ure to strengthen squad

Top Spanish club Sevilla moved to strengthen their attack by signing Scottish striker Robbie Ure from Swedish club IK Sirius on Tuesday.
Ure arrives at the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium for a fee of 6.5 million euros (7.5 million U.S. dollars) after scoring 31 goals in 50 appearances for IK Sirius, with 15 of those coming in 15 games in 2026.
"I think the chance to play for a very big club, a club that comes with a lot of pressure every game, to play in La Liga also is a great step for me and to take my career to the next level. I wanted to be in top-class environments, some of the best, and I feel like here is the place to be for me," the 22-year-old told Sevilla's official website.
He arrived in Seville on Monday to undergo his medical tests and on Tuesday signed a five-year contract with the club coached by Luis Garcia Plaza, keeping him at Sevilla until the end of 2031, reports Xinhua.
Ure has a difficult task ahead of him to provide goals and lead the line, a role filled last season by Akor Adams, who was sold to Venezia this summer.
"I think scoring goals comes down to being cool in the mind and slowing everything down and really just thinking about you and the ball. And this season I've been doing that really well. My head has been really calm in these situations. So, I hope I can continue," added Ure.
Sevilla are trying to rebuild their squad after the departures of full-back Juanlu Sanchez, who joined Bournemouth, while Switzerland international midfielder Djibril Sow moved to Genoa.
Juanlu's move was expected, and he had confirmed his switch to the Premier League a day earlier while speaking to the press at Seville airport, while Sow departed after Genoa paid his release clause of four million euros.
"Sevilla FC and Genoa FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Djibril Sow. The Swiss midfielder, who arrived at the club in the summer of 2023 from Eintracht Frankfurt, closes his spell as a Sevilla player after making 100 official appearances in which he scored eight goals and gave 13 assists," announced the Sevilla website.
The two departures and the transfer fees generated will help the club's poor financial situation, but a look at the changes in the Sevilla squad over the summer must make worrying reading for coach Luis Garcia.
The former Levante, Alaves, Getafe and Mallorca boss arrived in the closing weeks of last season with Sevilla struggling against relegation and guided the club to a late run of victories which kept the club in La Liga.
However, since the end of June, Sevilla has seen Cesar Azpilicueta retire, while defensive midfielder and captain Nemanja Gudelj has also left, along with Batista Mendy, Alexis Sanchez, Neal Maupay, Adnan Januzaj, Tanguy Nianzou and top scorer Akor Adams.

Good move by Sevilla to sell Sow and Juanlu, they needed the money. But losing so many players in one window is worrying. Hope the new coach knows what he's doing. 🙏
As a football fan, I'm excited to see how Ure adapts to Spanish football. The step from Swedish league to La Liga is huge, but his confidence is sky-high. Sevilla needed a natural goal scorer after Adams left.
Sevilla's squad rebuilding looks messy tbh. Azpilicueta retired, Gudelj left, now Sow and Juanlu gone? They're lucky Ure is a bargain. But they need more than one signing to survive La Liga this season.
Interesting transfer. Ure's stats are solid, but I wonder if 6.5 million is too much for a player from a lower league. Sevilla's financial issues are well known, so they need this gamble to work.
Sad to see so many players leaving Sevilla. They were once a top club in Europe, now they're struggling just to stay in La Liga. Hope Ure brings some spark back. La Liga needs strong Sevilla!
