Follow MGR, Jayalalithaa's footsteps: VK Sasikala wishes 'excellent administration' to new TN CM Vijay

VK Sasikala congratulates new Tamil Nadu CM Vijay, urging him to follow the legacy of MGR and Jayalalithaa for people-centric governance.

"I sincerely wish that he establishes an excellent administration focused on the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu, following in the footsteps of Puratchi Thalaivar (MGR) and Puratchi Thalaivi Amma (Jayalalithaa). - VK Sasikala"

Chennai, May 10

Expelled AIADMK leader and AIPTMMK founder VK Sasikala on Sunday extended her congratulations to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief C Joseph Vijay after he took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Sasikala said she hoped the new government would deliver people-centric governance in line with the legacy of AIADMK's leaders and former Chief Ministers, MG Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa.

In a post on X, Sasikala said, "I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes with great joy to my dear younger brother, Mr. C. Joseph Vijay, who has taken oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after securing a landslide victory in the recently concluded Assembly General Elections, and to the members of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam."

"I sincerely wish that he establishes an excellent administration focused on the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu, following in the footsteps of Puratchi Thalaivar (MGR) and Puratchi Thalaivi Amma (Jayalalithaa)," she added.

Vijay was sworn in as Chief Minister at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Sunday after TVK secured a majority in the Assembly elections.

Nine Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leaders, including party leaders N Anand and Aadhav Arjuna, on Sunday took the oath as Ministers of Tamil Nadu as the new era of state politics began, bringing an end to the duopoly of DMK and AIADMK.

Other TVK leaders, KA Sengottaiyan, KG Arunraj, P Venkataramanan, R Nirmalkumar, Rajmohan, TK Prabhu and S Keerthana, were also sworn in as ministers in the new cabinet of first-time Chief Minister Vijay.

They took an oath along with Vijay after his majestic success in the debut elections.

The oath was administered by Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar; meanwhile, LoP Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Vijay's parents, actress Trisha Krishna and others were present at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to embrace the occasion.

Ahead of his swearing-in ceremony, Vijay welcomed and greeted Governor Arlekar to the venue. The TVK chief also introduced the Governor to all the ministers-designate.

The 2026 Tamil Nadu elections were registered in history books after the state declared an unprecedented mandate for Vijay. While TVK ended up winning 108 out of 234 seats in its maiden political stint, it was for the first time in the history of state politics that both legacy 'Dravidian' parties were ousted from power.

However, Vijay couldn't attain majority on its own and was later offered support by Congress (5), CPI-M (2), CPI (2), VCK (2) and IUML (2), which were earlier the allies of Secular Progressive Alliance led by DMK.

Vijay, often referred to as the 'Thalapathy', showed a crowd-pulling ability in the election rallies, which many compared to actor-turned-politician and former CM MG Ramachandran. While Tamil Nadu has had a long history of actors entering and conquering politics, the State awaited another star to step up in the line after Captain Vijayakanth.

Although the TVK was launched in 2024, he has been looked at as a social worker and has not been apolitical, given his films, which dealt with the drug menace, corruption and other socio-political issues. While there has been speculation of him entering politics since 2009, Vijay has involved himself in social work.

In the 2026 elections, he won two seats, Perambur and Trichy East, and will resign from one.

MGR and Jayalalithaa were giants, but Vijay has a chance to create his own legacy. The fact that DMK and AIADMK both lost is a huge message from the people. Let's see if this 'Thalapathy' can actually deliver governance and not just entertainment on screen. Wishing the new CM all the best!

Sasikala's message is classic political courtesy, but let's not pretend she has any real influence anymore. Vijay won on his own terms - with a coalition government that includes Congress and left parties. That's a very different political recipe from MGR's single-party dominance. Hope he balances all expectations well. 🤞

Wait - 108 seats out of 234 is not a majority, so how is this a 'landslide victory'? The article itself says he needed support from Congress and others. That's a coalition government, not a clear mandate. Still, breaking the DMK-AIADMK duopoly is impressive for a debut party. Let's see how stable this alliance stays.

Finally a new face in Tamil Nadu politics! I'm tired of the same old DMK vs AIADMK drama. Vijay's movies always had social messages - hope he brings that same energy to governance. But he needs to be careful with the coalition - too many cooks can spoil the broth. Wishing him success! 🌟

Sasikala's comment is like a blessing from the past - she wants to stay relevant. But Vijay should focus on what Tamil Nadu needs today: job creation, infrastructure, and water management. Not just following MGR
