Bengaluru, January 19

Ahead of the World Economic Summit, Karnataka Minister MB Patil said that he is looking forward to advancing the state's global industry and attracting further investment, aligning with the development agenda.

Shedding light on the delegation's agenda for the annual meet, Patil on Sunday said that there will be 45-plus high-level meetings with global leaders in Davos.

"Headed to #WEF26 Davos (Jan 19-23) to advance Karnataka's global industry and investment agenda. With an execution-first approach, our delegation will hold 45+ high-level meetings with global leaders, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Lenovo, and Coca-Cola, focused on converting investment intent into on-ground projects and quality jobs," Patil wrote on X.

Founded in 1971, the WEF operates as a non-profit organisation. Recognised as one of the most influential business conferences worldwide, it aims to strengthen global economic growth through geopolitics, education and technology, financial policy, and investment. Along with India, nearly fifty countries will take part in the conference.

Meanwhile, a high-level delegation from Uttar Pradesh, led by the state's Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, arrived in Zurich on Monday to participate in the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The visit aims to position the state as a global investment destination as it pursues a USD 1 trillion economy target through infrastructure and technology-led growth.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren attended a video conference chaired by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, during which he informed the latter about his state's preparations for the World Economic Forum Summit, which will showcase opportunities in critical minerals and electronics component manufacturing, among others.

The meeting, which took place on Sunday, CM Soren said the spirit of cooperation and dialogue is clearly reflected in India's preparations for the annual Davos meeting.

Good to see multiple states like Karnataka, UP, and Jharkhand participating. Healthy competition is good for the country. But I hope these meetings lead to tangible results, not just photo-ops. We've seen many MoUs signed at such forums that never materialize.

Focus on "quality jobs" is key. We need to move beyond just BPO and call centers. Attracting high-value manufacturing and R&D centers will create better career paths for our youth. All the best to the delegation! 🇮🇳

As someone working in the tech sector here, infrastructure is a major bottleneck. Hope these talks also address the need for better roads, reliable power, and public transport. Investment comes where the ecosystem supports it.

While attracting foreign investment is important, I hope our ministers also promote our domestic startups and MSMEs on this global stage. They are the real engines of job creation. "Vocal for Local" should be part of the agenda too.

Davos is a great platform. But the cost of sending these large delegations is also high. The public deserves a transparent report on the outcomes and ROI once they return. Accountability is important.
