'Five Nights at Freddy's 3' recruits horror hitmaker Gary Dauberman as screenwriter
Washington, June 27
Blumhouse Atomic Monster has brought acclaimed horror writer Gary Dauberman on board to write the screenplay for 'Five Nights at Freddy's 3,' marking a significant creative addition to the blockbuster horror franchise.
As per Variety, the latest installment promises another return to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, where the deadly animatronics are once again set to unleash terror.
Dauberman has established himself as one of Hollywood's most successful horror screenwriters over the past decade, having written major franchise entries including 'It,' 'Annabelle,' and 'The Nun.'
His appointment comes after the commercial success of the first two 'Five Nights at Freddy's' films, which turned the video game adaptation into one of Blumhouse's most valuable properties.
The original 'Five Nights at Freddy's,' released in 2023, earned USD 297.2 million worldwide against a reported USD 20 million budget, as per Variety.
Its sequel, released in 2025, collected USD 239.6 million globally on a USD 36 million budget, further cementing the franchise's box office appeal.
Based on Scott Cawthon's popular horror video game series, the films are set inside a haunted, family-friendly themed restaurant where killer animatronics stalk their victims after dark.
Actor Josh Hutcherson starred in both films. Cawthon co-wrote the screenplay for the first film alongside Emma Tammi and Seth Cuddeback before writing the second film on his own.

I still can't get over how successful these films are financially. ₹20 crore budget making ₹2500 crore worldwide? That's insane ROI! 🤯 Shows you don't need big stars, just a good horror concept. Though I hope they don't drag the franchise like some Indian horror series. Quality over quantity please!
As someone who played the original FNaF games back in college, this is both exciting and worrying. 🔥 The first movie was a decent adaptation, second one was better. Dauberman knows horror franchises well but sometimes he goes heavy on jump scares. I just want a tight script that captures the creepy atmosphere of the game. Better than our typical 'chudail' horror films tbh.
I have mixed feelings honestly. 😕 The first film was okay but felt a bit predictable. The second one improved but still felt like standard Hollywood horror fare. With Dauberman onboard, I hope they take risks instead of playing it safe. We Indians love horror content but we need fresh ideas — not just animatronics jumping out every 5 minutes. Hope they prove me wrong! ✌️
Great news for horror fans worldwide! 🇮🇳 We might complain about Hollywood dominating, but honestly, if Indian filmmakers made a similar concept, would it even get this kind of budget? The franchise has earned its stripes. Dauberman writing the script means the horror quotient will be high. Just wish they'd explore the lore deeper — the game's story is so rich. 🎮
Honestly, I rolled my eyes
