First look of 'Friday The 13th' prequel series 'Crystal lake' out; to stream from October 15
Washington DC, July 14
The first look of the horror film 'Crystal Lake', the prequel to 1980 horror movie 'Friday the 13th', has been unveiled by the makers on Monday. It stars Linda Cardellini in the lead role.
In the film Linda plays the role of Pam Voorhees, a single mother who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before.
"When two strangers arrive at Pam's door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees?" the plot synopsis teases.
According to the teaser released by streaming giant Peacock, the movie revolves around a curse on Crystal Lake which traces back to Jason's (lead character across Friday The 13th franchise) previous drowning as a group sits around a campfire in the dark.
Peacock shared the teaser on their Instagram handle.
According to Deadline, all eight episodes of the horror series will premiere the same date in October. Each episode is around an hour long. Alongside Cardellini, series regulars include William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. Recurring cast includes Callum Vinson, Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch, Phoenix Parnevik.
Executive producers include Brad Caleb Kane, Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, Stuart Manashil, Tyson Bidner, Michael Lennox and Roy Lee.
Michael Lennox directed the first three episodes while Quyen Tran directed the penultimate and finale episodes. It will stream on October 15.

As a horror fan in Chennai, I'm excited but cautious. The original movies were iconic for their slasher style, but prequels can be hit or miss. Linda Cardellini is a solid choice though - she was amazing in 'Mad Men'. Hope they don't mess with the lore too much.
I'm skeptical about this. The Friday the 13th franchise has been milked dry already. Why do we need a prequel about a mother's grief when we all know Jason goes on to become the killer? Seems like a cash grab. But I'll still watch it because I'm a sucker for horror. 👻
Peacock streaming? Another platform to subscribe to! 😅 In India, we're already drowning in Netflix, Prime, Hotstar... But for Crystal Lake, I might make an exception. The teaser looks genuinely creepy - that campfire scene gave me chills. Hope it's worth the subscription fee!
I love that they're exploring Pam Voorhees' backstory. In the original film, she was just a vengeful mother - here, she's a grieving single mother dealing with trauma. That's actually interesting character development. Linda Cardellini is perfect for this role. Looking forward to October!
Honestly, I'm tired of all these prequels and reboots. Can Hollywood not come up with original horror ideas? 🥱 We have such rich folklore in India - why don't they make series about that? But I'll still check this out for the nostalgia. The Friday the 13th theme song still gives me nightmares!
