Ghana Witch Doctor Releases Harry Kane from Spell After World Cup Draw

A Ghanaian witch doctor named Nana Kwaku Bonsam has claimed to have "released" England captain Harry Kane from a spell after a goalless draw. Bonsam had previously stated he would cast a spell on Kane to prevent him from scoring against Ghana. Kane struggled in the match, recording only 19 touches, his fewest in a major tournament for England. England will next face Panama on June 28 to conclude their group stage.

FIFA World Cup: Ghana witch doctor "releases" England skipper from his spell after goalless draw

Massachusetts, June 24

A Ghanaian witch doctor named Nana Kwaku Bonsam has "released" England skipper Harry Kane from his spell after he failed to score a goal and make an impact overall during his side's goalless draw against Ghana at the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Tuesday.

Before Ghana's match against England, Bonsam, a self-described spiritualist, had said that he would cast a spell on Harry to stop him from scoring against his country.

"Now I am going to release Harry Kane so that, his next match, he can score. Harry, I will come and visit you. Don't be offended. We are friends," Bonsam said in a video posted on social media as quoted by Reuters.

Kane scored a brace during his side's 4-2 win over Croatia in his side's campaign opener, but had an absolutely poor outing against Ghana. As per Sky Sports, Kane recorded just 19 touches throughout the game, the fewest by him in a major tournament match in the English shirt, while playing 90 or more minutes.

Kane said that he was not dwelling on his miss either, saying, "I was waiting for an opportunity like that to fall my way. It did, and I just could not quite get over the ball. But I have been a striker long enough to know they do not always go in."

England will play their final group stage clash against Panama on June 28 in New Jersey.

As an Indian, I find this whole witch doctor thing quite amusing. We have our own superstitions too - some cricket fans believe in doing puja before matches. But this is next level! Kane should be more worried about his form than some spell. England need him firing against Panama.

Come on, this is just a publicity stunt. Kane missed a chance, it happens. Football shouldn't be reduced to superstition like this. But I guess it makes for a good story. England should focus on their game, not on some supposed spell. That's just poor mentality.

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, it's entertaining and adds a cultural angle to the World Cup. On the other hand, it feels disrespectful to reduce a player's poor performance to "black magic." Kane is professional enough to know his game was off. Let's give credit to Ghana's defense instead.

Bhai log, this is peak World Cup drama! 🤣 In India we have our own tantriks who claim to curse players. But this witch doctor saying he'll "release" Kane now is just comedy gold. I bet Kane is laughing too. Football needs more of this spice!

As someone who follows football seriously, this is ridiculous. Kane's performance was poor because Ghana targeted him tactically, not because of any spell. England need to address their tactical issues, not worry about witch doctors. This is just media hype for clicks.
