FIFA WC: When and where to watch Austria vs Jordan; know all details
Santa Clara, June 16
Austria begin their World Cup campaign against tournament debutants Jordan at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on Wednesday, with both sides eager to make a positive start in Group J. While defending champions Argentina are favourites to top the group, the race for the second automatic qualification spot is expected to be fiercely contested, making an opening victory crucial.
Austria return to the World Cup for the first time since 1998 but have suffered a setback with attacking midfielder Christoph Baumgartner ruled out by a thigh injury. Dejan Ljubicic has replaced him in the squad, while captain David Alaba has recovered from a minor muscle issue and is fit to start. Konrad Laimer is also available despite his recent friendly red card, which does not apply to tournament fixtures.
Jordan's preparations have also been disrupted by injuries. Leading striker Yazan Al Naimat misses the tournament, while Ibrahim Sabra has withdrawn from the squad, paving the way for Mohammad Taha's inclusion. With their primary goalscorer unavailable, head coach Jamal Sellami is expected to build his attack around Mousa Tamari, alongside Ali Olwan and Odeh Fakhoury in a fluid front three.

Finally, we get to see World Cup action on Indian TV channels! Unite8 Sports showing live matches is a big deal for us. Hope Zee5 streaming also works smoothly. Austria v Jordan should be an interesting opener for Group J. 🇮🇳⚽
David Alaba playing despite injury is great news for Austria. But Jordan's attacking trio of Tamari, Olwan, and Fakhoury could cause problems. A draw would be a fantastic result for the debutants.
Nice to see Asian representation with Jordan. Their team is physically strong and well-organized. Austria missing Baumgartner is a blow, but they still have quality. Should be a tight contest.
Disappointed that Indian broadcasters still don't cover FIFA matches properly on free-to-air channels. Unite8 Sports is okay but their coverage quality needs improvement. Subscription on Zee5 is another hurdle for average fans. Still, we'll manage since it's the World Cup! 🏆
Jordan's defensive solidity will be key here. Austria hasn't played in a World Cup for 26 years - that's huge pressure. Marko Arnautovic could be the game-changer with his experience. Looking forward to early morning football! ☕⚽
