'Every girl's dreams valuable, voice powerful': J&L L-G on women's empowerment

Srinagar, July 6

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said he envisions a J&K where every young girl grows up believing that her dreams are valuable, her voice is powerful, and her future holds limitless possibilities.

In his address, the Lieutenant Governor hailed the fellows as symbols of J&K's ongoing transformation toward a future built on self-confidence, equal opportunities and dignity for all.

He lauded the efforts of women's organisations for creating a robust platform where Nari Shakti from the region could move forward confidently, embrace their talent, ideas, and identities, and play a meaningful role in building a bright future for J&K.

"By challenging deeply entrenched stereotypes, these fellows have redefined what is possible. They have paved a new path for future generations and their contributions would serve as a foundation of inspiration, confidence, and guidance for years to come," the Lieutenant Governor said.

He paid homage to historical icons such as Rani Didda, Kota Rani, Lal Ded, Habba Khatoon, and Mata Rupa Bhawani, who had shaped the consciousness of J&K and contributed to its development. He highlighted that the women of J&K have always scaled the highest peaks of Nari Shakti.

"We have many such remarkable examples before us, and I wish for the women of J&K to lead the region's development," he said.

The Lieutenant Governor expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for empowering the women of J&K by granting them their due rights and eliminating discrimination.

He outlined a progressive vision for the Union Territory, powered by women leaders. "Women's empowerment is key to a Viksit J&K; their progress ensures the progress of society. I envision a J&K where women lead in academia, industry, social organisations and governance, shaping policies, driving entrepreneurship, and enriching our culture through art and literature.

"I envision a J&K where every young girl grows up believing that her dreams are valuable, her voice is powerful, and her future holds limitless possibilities," the Lieutenant Governor said.

He urged us to remain steadfast in our resolve to accord due respect to our Nari Shakti, while creating an environment that fosters their capabilities and progress.

The Lieutenant Governor emphasised the need to address the rising challenge of substance abuse among women. He advised the fellows to conduct a comprehensive, region-specific analysis to identify its underlying root causes.

He said that this study will significantly strengthen rehabilitation frameworks and provide vital support to our daughters and sisters who have fallen victim to drug addiction.

He also hoped that the dedication of all the members of women's organisations would catalyse positive change in the lives of countless women in the years to come.

Good words from L-G Sinha, but actions speak louder. Women's empowerment in J&K means ensuring they have access to higher education, jobs in tech and industry, not just traditional roles. Also, the mention of substance abuse among women is an issue often ignored - glad they're addressing it.

Inspiring to see this focus on Nari Shakti in J&K. The references to historical figures like Rani Didda and Kota Rani show a deep cultural pride. If the vision of women leading in academia, industry, and governance is realized, it would be a game-changer for the region.

At last someone is talking about women's empowerment seriously! The idea of a comprehensive study on substance abuse among women is much-needed. But we also need to address the root causes - poverty, lack of opportunities, and mental health support. Let's hope this isn't just another govt initiative that fizzles out.

वाह! (Wow!) Proud to see J&K L-G recognizing women's potential. The comparison of today's women with Rani Didda and Lal Ded is perfect - these were trailblazers. But one criticism: we need more women in actual leadership positions in local bodies and corporations, not just in symbolic roles. Practical implementation is key.

Beautifully said! "Every girl's dreams are valuable" - this should be taught in every home. But empowerment also means economic independence. Women in J&K need access to bank loans, skill development, and markets for their products. The govt should support women entrepreneurs in handic
