Drug-free TN, women's safety dominate CM Vijay's review meeting with top officials

Drug-Free Tamil Nadu, women's safety and the effective implementation of government welfare schemes dominated Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's review meeting with IAS and IPS officers on Monday, as the TVK government held its first major administrative conference since assuming office.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the law and order situation across the state and outlined governance priorities during the high-level meeting at Namakkal Kavignar Maligai in the Secretariat.
The two-day conference brought together Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, senior secretaries to the government, District Collectors, Superintendents of Police, Range Deputy Inspectors General, Inspectors General of Police and senior Forest Department officials to assess the performance of key departments and review action plans.
According to official reports, CM Vijay directed that the conference be conducted in three sessions covering the functioning of 28 government departments.
The first session, attended jointly by District Collectors and senior police officers, focused on law and order, district administration and the implementation of flagship government initiatives.
The Chief Minister reviewed measures to strengthen women's safety and curb crimes such as chain-snatching.
Discussions also focused on improving accountability and transparency in policing, enhancing intelligence gathering, speeding up the execution of arrest warrants and closely monitoring habitual offenders, rowdies and persons released on bail.
Officials also assessed the prevailing law and order situation across districts, including strategies to prevent caste-related conflicts and maintain communal harmony.
A detailed review was held on the functioning of the Singappen Special Task Force, progress in disposing of cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and measures to tackle cybercrimes targeting women and children.
The government's Drug-Free Tamil Nadu initiative also figured prominently during the meeting. Officials reviewed awareness campaigns against narcotics in educational institutions, enforcement against illicit liquor and steps being taken to curb the sale of banned tobacco products.
The second session of the conference has been reserved exclusively for District Collectors to review the implementation of welfare schemes and identify challenges in ensuring that government benefits reach the public.
A third session involving Collectors and Indian Forest Service officers will focus on forest conservation and environmental management.
The conference will conclude on Tuesday with an address by Chief Minister Vijay, who is also expected to present awards and commendations to District Collectors, police officers and Forest Department personnel for outstanding performance.

The Drug-Free TN initiative is much needed. I've seen too many young lives destroyed by substance abuse near colleges. But awareness campaigns alone won't work—strict enforcement against illegal liquor and tobacco is the real test. Let's see action, not just meetings.
Good to see the CM focusing on communal harmony too. Caste conflicts are still a reality in rural areas—we need district collectors and police to work hand in hand. Let's hope this isn't just another photo-op.
POCSO cases disposal review is important but speed shouldn't compromise justice. Also, cybercrimes targeting women and children need dedicated cyber cells at district level, not just meetings in Chennai. Let's see some digital policing action!
As a woman living in a busy part of Chennai, I appreciate the focus on chain-snatching and women's safety. But we also need better street lighting and more police patrolling in vulnerable areas. Let's hope the CM walks the talk. 💪
I appreciate the three-session approach covering law, welfare, and environment. But why only forest conservation in the third session? Pollution and climate change affect every district—hope the CM addresses urban environmental issues too.
