Diljit Dosanjh's prediction turns true, 'Satluj' taken down days after OTT release
Mumbai, July 5
Only days after release, Diljit Dosanjh starrer 'Satluj' has been taken down from the OTT platform Zee5.
The OTT platform published an official statement on its Instagram handle, saying that although they have decided to 'pause' the drama in India, they 'firmly stand by the film'.
They further informed that they have taken the decision keeping in view the 'current developments'.
Expressing their gratitude to the audience for an overwhelming response, the statement read, "The response to Satluj since its release has been truly overwhelming. We are deeply grateful to every viewer who chose to subscribe, watch and champion the film. Your love and support have meant a great deal to us and to everyone who brought this story to life."
They also added that they stand behind the film's team, writing, "At Zee 5, we stand firmly by Satluj and the creative vision behind it. We believe powerful storytelling has the ability to inspire, endure and leave a lasting impact. We remain committed to championing authentic and meaningful narratives (sic)."
They went on to add, "In light of the current developments, Satluj will be unavailable in India until further notice. We remain committed to exploring every appropriate avenue through due process to bring the film back to our audiences at the earliest opportunity. Our commitment to creators and to stories told with conviction, artistic integrity and purpose remains unwavering."
Earlier titled 'Punjab 95', the project fought a long battle against censorship before finally getting a digital release.
It might be exciting to know that Diljit seemed to have already predicted this.
As he was interacting with the netizens during an Instagram LIVE after the release of 'Satluj', someone asked him if he fears that the film will be taken down.
Reacting to this, he said that he is, in fact, scared. Diljit also expressed surprise that the project reached the OTT platform. "Today is Saturday. I feel it could be taken down by Monday. But no worries, you download it," Diljit predicted.

First they delayed the release, then they allowed it on OTT, now they pull it again. What is this game? Art should not be subjected to political pressure. I hope Diljit takes a strong stand. Bollywood and OTT platforms need to unite against this selective censorship.
Sad to see such a powerful film being silenced. The issue it highlights about Punjab is real and needs discussion. Diljit did what he could by warning fans to download it. But this sets a dangerous precedent for creative freedom in India. 🛑
Living in the US and watching this unfold is disheartening. I was able to stream it before it was taken down. Powerful storytelling that deserves to be heard. India's creative community needs to push back against this trend. Diljit's prediction was eerily accurate.
From 'Punjab 95' to 'Satluj', the film has faced endless hurdles. Kudos to Zee5 for at least releasing it, but shame on them for giving in to pressure. Diljit's Instagram Live warning was a genius move - at least those who watched it in time got to see it. Free speech is not a threat, it's a right.
Respect to Diljit for his honesty and foresight. The fact that he knew this would happen shows how broken the system is. We need more artists like him who speak truth to power, even when it's risky. 🙏
