Hindus observe four Navratris throughout the year, but only two--Chaitra Navratri and Shardiya Navratri--are widely celebrated, as they coincide with the changing of the seasons. In India, Navratri is celebrated in various forms and traditions.

The nine-day festival, also known as Ram Navratri, concludes on Ram Navami, which marks the birthday of Lord Ram. Throughout the festival, all nine days are devoted to honouring the nine incarnations of the goddess Shakti.'The festival is celebrated with great devotion across India, with rituals and prayers honouring the goddess in her various forms.

Ram Navami is the day when Lord Rama appeared in his human and divine form, and is celebrated with great reverence and festivities all over India, but especially in the sacred city of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.

Leading up to Ram Navami, Hindus observe the 9-day fast during the Chaitra Navaratri, which consists of abstinence from alcohol, smoking, consumption of sattvic vegetarian food and immersing oneself in prayer and meditation to let the body go through a process of detoxification.

While the devotion is beautiful, I hope the local municipalities and temple trusts are managing the crowds properly, especially after past incidents. Safety should be paramount alongside faith. The photos from Haridwar look incredibly crowded.

The diversity in how Navratri is celebrated is India's real strength. In Gujarat it's garba, in Bengal it's Durga Puja, in the North it's these temple visits and kanjak. One festival, countless beautiful traditions. Feeling proud and blessed.

As someone living in Mumbai, it's amazing to see the city's spirit during Navratri. The Wadala temple ceremonies are a sight to behold. The discipline with which people observe the fast and follow rituals is commendable. A beautiful part of Indian culture.

The spiritual significance of this detoxification process during the fast is often overlooked. It's not just ritual; it's a conscious reset for mind and body. May Maa Mahagauri bless everyone with strength and purity. On to Ram Navami!

My family in Prayagraj sent pictures from Alopi Devi temple. The shobha yatra was magnificent! This connection to our roots, especially when living in a different state, is what these festivals are all about. Feeling emotional and connected. 🪔
