"NDMC has already completed 100 per cent desilting work under the first phase by March 31, while the second phase will be completed by June 15. - Kuljeet Singh Chahal"

New Delhi, May 12

NDMC Vice-Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Tuesday conducted an early morning inspection of various waterlogging-prone locations in the NDMC area along with senior officers of the Civil, Electrical, Horticulture, Health, and Road Departments.

The objective of the initiative was to assess preparedness to ensure uninterrupted civic services and minimise waterlogging during the monsoon season, said the New Delhi Municipal Council V-C.

During the inspection, Chahal visited major waterlogging-prone areas, including Bharti Nagar, Golf Links, Tughlaq Lane, and Pandara Road, to review preparedness and preventive arrangements being undertaken by NDMC.

He directed the department heads to ensure the timely completion of all monsoon-related works and maintain better coordination among departments for prompt action during heavy rainfall.

Chahal informed that NDMC has already completed 100 per cent desilting work under the first phase by March 31, while the second phase will be completed by June 15.

He stated that under Road Divisions I to V and the CP Division, NDMC has cleaned 7,888 bell mouths, 4,833 gully traps, and 8,913 manholes during the first phase itself, thereby strengthening the drainage system and helping prevent waterlogging.

Reiterating NDMC's commitment towards the vision of "Viksit Bharat" and world-class urban management envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chahal also conducted a midnight inspection of Khan Market.

During the inspection, he reviewed the ongoing night sweeping operations and redevelopment works. Officers and officials from the Health, Civil, and other concerned departments were also present, along with RWA representatives, during the inspection.

He shared the progress report on various ongoing development and infrastructure improvement works being carried out in and around Khan Market to enhance civic amenities and provide a better experience for visitors, traders, and shoppers.

Chahal stated that Khan Market is one of the most prominent and highly visited commercial destinations in the national capital, attracting a large number of residents, tourists, diplomats, and visitors every day.

Finally some action! I live near Golf Links and last year we had water up to our knees in some lanes. 100% desilting by March is impressive. Let's see if the second phase by June 15 holds up. But honestly, inspections at midnight? That's dedication. 👏

These numbers are good, but numbers don't stop waterlogging. Let's not get too excited till the monsoon actually hits. Remember 2021? All that cleaning still couldn't handle 3 hours of rain. Need better drainage design, not just cleaning. Still, credit where due for starting early. 🙏

As someone who visited Khan Market last week, it's lovely but the footpaths near the parking area flood whenever there's light rain. Hope night sweeping and redevelopment address that. The market deserves better infrastructure for international tourists.

Good initiative but why only NDMC areas? Whole city needs this! I'm in MCD area and we haven't seen a single desilting truck yet. At least they're trying for high-profile areas like Khan Market. For common people, the problem remains. Bhai, hum bhi toh Delhi ke hain! 😅

Impressive coordination: civil, electrical, horticulture all together. That's what we need. And night inspections show commitment. I just hope this isn't a one-time thing and they maintain the system through the monsoon. Consistency matters more than early starts.
