Delhi: NDMC V-C leads green drive on 33rd successive Sunday

New Delhi Municipal Council Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal led the 33rd consecutive Sunday plantation drive under the '#EkPedMaaKeNaam OnSunday' campaign at the Women's Technical Institute, Netaji Nagar, an official said.
Continuing the commitment towards a greener future every Sunday on the call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chahal urged citizens to actively participate in this people's movement for environmental conservation.
Addressing the gathering, Chahal said that the '#EkPedMaaKeNaam_OnSunday' campaign had completed its 33rd consecutive Sunday, reflecting the growing awareness and active participation of citizens towards environmental conservation.
He stated that, in addition to the weekly plantation drives, NDMC has also been organising large-scale plantation programmes in collaboration with universities, embassies and various institutions.
Appreciating the dedicated efforts of Team NDMC, Chahal said that such collective initiatives are playing a significant role in making New Delhi greener, cleaner, more beautiful and environmentally sustainable.
He emphasised that planting saplings alone is not enough; their regular care, protection and maintenance are equally important and should be treated as a shared responsibility.
On this occasion, Komal Pathak, Principal of the Women's Technical Institute, faculty members, students and Purnesh, Chief Engineer, Col Hari SE, Col Kaushik, Jitender Dabas, Dy Dir Hort along with other senior officers and officials from the Civil, Electrical, Water Supply, Sewerage, Horticulture and other departments of NDMC also planted saplings in honour of their mothers.
Participants appreciated the campaign, stating that 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' is not merely a plantation drive but an inspiring people's movement that reminds society of its responsibility towards nature and motherhood.
Chahal said that 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' is not merely a plantation drive; it is a people's movement that embodies emotional bonding, social responsibility and environmental conservation.
"Every sapling planted in honour of one's mother symbolises our gratitude towards Mother Nature and lays a strong foundation for a cleaner, greener and more secure future for generations to come," he said.
He stated that along with environmental conservation, women's skill development, modern technical education and self-reliance are key pillars of the vision of 'Viksit Bharat @2047'.
Upgradation of the Women Technical Institute, he said, will be an important step in this direction.
Following the plantation programme, Chahal carried out an extensive inspection of the NDMC Women Technical Institute (WTI) at Netaji Nagar.
During the visit, he reviewed the existing infrastructure, institutional facilities, and training resources with the Heads of Department (HODs), the Principal, and other senior officers.
Chahal directed the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the comprehensive modernisation of the institute.
He instructed the departments concerned to conduct a thorough survey and prepare proposals for upgrading the campus and buildings, creating modern training infrastructure, developing a herbal garden, cafeteria and smart facilities.

As someone living in a colony near Netaji Nagar, I've actually seen these drives happening. It's heartening to see officials, faculty, and students all coming together on a Sunday. My mother always says, "Pehle ped, phir sukh" (first trees, then happiness). Hope other municipal corporations also take cue from NDMC. Small consistent steps make big changes. 🌳
