Delhi-NCR to witness cloudy skies, rain spells; air quality remains in poor category

Delhi and adjoining areas of the National Capital Region are expected to witness cloudy weather and intermittent rainfall on Wednesday, offering some relief from humid conditions.
According to weather forecasts, the national capital is likely to record a minimum temperature of around 29 degrees Celsius and a maximum of nearly 36 degrees Celsius during the day.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted generally cloudy skies accompanied by light rain or drizzle across Delhi. Similar weather conditions are expected to continue over the next few days, with rainfall activity likely to persist in the city until August 17.
Neighbouring NCR cities, including Noida and Ghaziabad, may experience heavy showers along with thunderstorms and lightning. Rainfall is also expected in Faridabad and Gurugram, where overcast conditions are likely to prevail for most of the day.
Meteorological data indicate that temperatures in Delhi will remain near 29 degrees Celsius for much of the day. Winds are expected to remain light, with an average speed of around 1.67 kmph, while occasional gusts may reach up to 5.28 kmph. The wind direction is forecast to remain predominantly from the north.
The city is likely to witness moderate rainfall during the afternoon, evening, and night hours. Sunrise in the national capital is expected at 5:48 a.m., while sunset is likely at 7:03 p.m.
Across the country, monsoon activity continues to remain vigorous. The IMD has stated that the Southwest Monsoon is expected to stay active over several regions, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Enhanced monsoon conditions could result in widespread rainfall across northern, western, and central India.
Very heavy rainfall is likely in parts of East Rajasthan, while intense showers are also expected in Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, western Uttar Pradesh, western Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and parts of Odisha. Isolated locations in Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, West Rajasthan, and northeastern states such as Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Nagaland may also receive heavy rain.
Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality remained in the "poor" category. Among major monitoring stations, Anand Vihar recorded the highest Air Quality Index (AQI) at 214, while most other locations reported AQI levels ranging from the satisfactory to moderate categories. Pusa recorded an AQI of 83, Chandni Chowk (98), IGI Airport Terminal 3 (92), Commonwealth Sports Complex (76), JNU (66), Alipur (59), North Campus, DU (105), R K Puram (102), ITO (89), Anand Vihar (214), DTU (66), Jahangirpuri (97), and Patparganj (73).

The forecast said rain but when I stepped out this morning from Dwarka, it was just drizzling. NCR weather apps are more unpredictable than a UP election result! Well, at least it's cooler than last week.

Everyone praises the rain, but for us street vendors in Sarthi Market, it means fewer customers and soggy goods. Also a little concern seeing the AQI fluctuate. At least the weather is not sweltering anymore, but we need more than just rain to fix Delhi's pollution problem. 🙏

Air quality is still poor? That's shocking despite the rain. Lived in Delhi all my life and it's sad that we've just accepted this as normal. The rain helps short-term, but we really need to handle construction dust and vehicle emissions seriously. Hope authorities wake up soon.
