Delhi-NCR likely to witness cloudy skies, intermittent rain till Aug 14; AQI remains moderate

Residents of Delhi-NCR woke up to a humid Monday morning, with discomfort due to high moisture levels despite recent spells of rain. According to the India Meteorological Department, temperatures are expected to remain near or slightly below normal over the coming days. The weather department has forecast cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall across Delhi and adjoining areas until August 14.
According to the IMD forecast, Delhi may receive another spell of very light rain on August 12 and 13. One or two spells of rainfall are likely during this period, although the overall precipitation is expected to remain limited.
The wind pattern is also expected to change in the coming days. Winds are likely to blow from the northeast to southwest on August 12 and from the northwest to west on August 13, with speeds ranging between 10 and 15 kmph.
Light to very light rainfall is also expected across several parts of Delhi on August 14 and 15. Wind speeds are likely to remain around 10-15 kmph, with westerly winds prevailing on August 14 and northwesterly winds expected on August 15.
Overall, Delhi is likely to witness cloudy weather accompanied by occasional light rainfall throughout the week. However, the showers may not provide significant relief from the prevailing humidity, as temperatures are expected to remain relatively high. The IMD has indicated that maximum temperatures are likely to remain broadly unchanged over the next seven days.
Delhi-NCR witnessed widespread rainfall beginning Friday, with several areas receiving heavy showers over the weekend. Despite being only the first half of August, the region has experienced a prolonged spell of continuous rain. While the rainfall has helped lower daytime temperatures and create relatively pleasant weather conditions, it has also led to severe traffic congestion and waterlogging in many areas.
According to IMD data, Saturday (August 8) was the rainiest day of the month in the last two years. As of Sunday morning, 98.7 mm of rainfall had been recorded in the preceding 24 hours, making it the highest single-day rainfall recorded in August since 2024.
The national capital's minimum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 26.5 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 34 degrees Celsius. Cloud cover is likely to persist throughout the day, with light to moderate rain expected at isolated places.
Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality remained in the moderate category on Monday. According to AQI monitoring data, Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 157; Chandni Chowk 88; Pusa 63; JNU 59; North Campus 287; ITO 86; IIT Delhi 93; Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium 75; Patparganj 65; and Narela 79. Despite the recent rainfall, several parts of the city continue to report moderate air quality levels.

Waterlogging is a big issue, yaar. I was stuck in traffic near ITO for almost an hour because of the rain. The AQI at North Campus is 287, which is quite poor. It's ironic that despite all this rain, the air quality isn't better.
The rain on Saturday was really something else, wasn't it? Highest single-day rainfall in August since 2024. I just hope the authorities are managing the drainage properly, otherwise these pleasant showers will quickly turn into a headache for commuters.
Honestly, I'll take this cloudy weather over that brutal heat in June any day. It's the first time in weeks I've been able to sit on my balcony in the evening. Just wish the humidity wasn't so bad. But the chai tastes better with this weather 😋
