Delhi Lakshmi Yojana: Over 4.25 lakh women register; 1.49 lakh submit forms
New Delhi, Aug 6
On a day when the number of registrations on the portal of Delhi Lakshmi Yojana crossed the 4.25 lakh-mark by 4 p.m., Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta interacted with applicants and resolved problems in the Shalimar Bagh area, an official said on Thursday.
Till 4 p.m., 4,25,631 women had registered for the scheme on the official portal and 1,49,941 submitted their final applications, said an official.
In a message on X, Chief Minister Gupta said, "Today, in Shalimar Bagh, there was a heartfelt meeting with beneficiary sisters at the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana camp. I helped them fill out their registration forms, signed their applications, and engaged in conversation with them."
"Along with enthusiasm for this scheme in the hearts of our sisters, there is also this unwavering faith that the government they blessed with their support is fulfilling every commitment with complete dedication. This very faith is our greatest inspiration," she wrote on X.
"The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, launched on August 1, has seen nearly 4 lakh sisters register so far. Under this scheme, Rs 2,500 will be directly transferred to the sisters' bank accounts every month. If you haven't registered yet, log in at http://dly.delhi.gov.in. If you face any kind of difficulty, please do come to your nearest registration camp," she said.
Earlier, till 8 p.m. on Wednesday, 3.78 lakh women had registered on the portal, and 1.16 lakh had submitted their final applications, said a statement.
The Chief Minister said that eligible women will receive financial assistance of Rs 2,500 every month.
"Going beyond direct financial support, the scheme aims to connect women with savings, digital financial inclusion, social security and long-term financial stability, making it an innovative model in the country," Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said.
The scheme will initially be implemented for a period of three years and is expected to benefit nearly 17 lakh women.
The Chief Minister had officially launched the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana on August 1 and also inaugurated the scheme's online registration portal, www.dly.delhi.gov.in.
Within 12 hours of the portal going live, 33,730-plus registrations were done by city women.
The Chief Minister said the Delhi Cabinet had originally approved the scheme as the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, but it was later renamed Delhi Lakshmi Yojana to better reflect the broader vision of women's dignity, prosperity and economic empowerment.
She added that the scheme has been designed differently from conventional cash assistance programmes.
Beneficiaries will be able to choose between two financial options based on their individual needs, the Chief Minister said.
"Under the first option, Rs 1,000 every month will be credited to a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet for meeting day-to-day expenses, while the remaining Rs 1,500 will be deposited in an RD/FD account," she added.
"Under the second option, the entire Rs 2,500 will be deposited in an RD/FD every month, allowing beneficiaries to build substantial savings over time along with interest. In this way, the scheme seeks to provide immediate financial assistance as well as long-term financial security," she said.
The Chief Minister added that a digital negative list will be implemented for the CBDC wallet to ensure that government assistance is used only for essential household needs.
"The amount credited to the wallet cannot be spent on alcohol, tobacco, narcotic substances, lottery tickets, gambling, betting or any other goods and services prohibited by the government from time to time. This will ensure that the financial assistance is utilised for the welfare of families," the Chief Minister said.

Great initiative but I hope the registration process becomes easier for elderly women who aren't tech-savvy. Many of my neighbors in their 60s are struggling with the online portal. The camps help, but we need more of them in every colony, not just in select areas.
The RD/FD option is a game-changer! Instead of just giving money to spend, this scheme helps women build savings with interest. My mother is so excited about this - she's already calculating how much she'll have after 3 years! 😄
Good scheme, but I have a concern - will this really reach the poorest women who need it most? The digital registration requirement might exclude those without smartphones or internet access. The government should ensure offline registration is equally promoted.
As a working woman, I appreciate the dual option structure. Some families need the monthly money for daily expenses, while others can afford to save. This flexibility shows the government actually understands real household situations. 17 lakh women benefiting is no small feat!
The negative list for CBDC wallet is a wise move - we've seen how cash assistance sometimes gets misused. But I'd like to see the eligibility criteria clearly. Will women from all income groups qualify, or is there a cap? Transparency in implementation is key.
