Delhi L-G TS Sandhu reviews Red Cross Society's operations
New Delhi, June 30
Looking to augment anti-TB campaign and first-aid training in Delhi, Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Tuesday reviewed the operations of Red Cross Society, Delhi Branch, and the St. John Ambulance Association for enhancing institutional capacity, an official said.
During the meeting, Sandhu explored the possibilities of facilitating resources, including CSR partnerships, for the future endeavours of the two organisations.
In a message on X, Sandhu said, "Chaired a meeting to review the operations of the Indian Red Cross Society, Delhi Branch, and the St. John Ambulance Association. These institutions embody a proud legacy of humanitarian service and have, for decades, played a vital role in providing essential healthcare, emergency response, and relief to those in need."
"Reviewed their operational roadmap and discussed the need for a comprehensive overhaul to further enhance efficiency, strengthen institutional capacity, and improve service delivery," he said.
Sandhu said the discussions were also held on measures to make the St. John Ambulance services more effective and responsive, with particular emphasis on ensuring the availability of adequately trained personnel.
"To further strengthen and expand their invaluable humanitarian initiatives - including the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Abhiyan, first-aid training programmes, winter relief operations, and assistance for Divyangjans - assured the Society of full support in facilitating resources, including CSR partnerships, for their future endeavours," said the Lieutenant Governor.
Earlier, Sandhu discussed traffic management in the capital with senior police officers, finalising strategies for area-specific solutions using intelligent traffic management systems and preventing illegal parking.
After the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor said in a message on X, "Reviewed a detailed presentation by @dtptraffic today, along with @CPDelhi and senior officials."
"It is encouraging to see the focused efforts and strategic interventions being undertaken to improve traffic management across Delhi. Targeted action to address major congestion points, combined with continuous engineering interventions and technology-driven solutions, has begun to deliver incremental improvements," said Sandhu.
He said, "Strict enforcement against violations such as wrong-side driving and unauthorised parking must remain a sustained priority."

TB Mukt Abhiyan is a great goal, but we need ground-level follow-up. I've seen camps where medicines ran out in two hours. Hope the LG ensures proper implementation, not just meetings. Still, a step in the right direction.
As someone who volunteered with the Red Cross in India, I can say these organizations are backbone of community health. Glad to see leadership taking notice. First-aid training should be mandatory in all schools.
Chalo, at least someone is looking at healthcare capacity. But what about the potholes that cause accidents? First-aid is fine, but prevention is better. Still, good to see government using X to keep us informed.
TB elimination needs a war-footing approach, not just CSR partnerships. But credit where due—LG is focusing on operational overhaul. The St. John Ambulance has been underfunded for years. Better late than never!
Traffic management needs to improve urgently—wrong-side driving is a nightmare in Delhi. Glad they're using tech solutions. If only they'd also fix footpaths for pedestrians and Divyangjans.
Impressive to see the LG combining health and traffic issues in one day
