Delhi govt announces free DTC bus travel for NEET candidates on June 21
New Delhi, May 29
The Delhi government has announced free travel in DTC buses for candidates appearing for the NEET examination on June 21.
Making the announcement, Delhi Health and Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said candidates will only need to show a valid admit card to avail of the free travel facility.
"Students appearing for the NEET examination must present their valid admit cards while boarding the bus, after which no fare will be charged to them. Free bus services will be provided to them," Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh told ANI.
Emphasising the government's commitment to student welfare, the Minister added, "The Delhi Government is committed to providing them with the best possible facilities... Students will not be required to purchase tickets on DTC buses."
The move is expected to benefit thousands of candidates travelling across the city to reach their examination centres smoothly.
In tandem with the student outreach initiative, the Transport Minister also shared updates on Delhi's public transport infrastructure and announced the upcoming launch of hydrogen fuel cell buses in the national capital.
"... Very soon, hydrogen buses will start running on the roads of Delhi. If their operation keeps a healthy environment in Delhi, we will increase them further," he said.
The Delhi government said free travel in DTC buses will be provided to all NEET candidates on June 21 to help them reach their examination centres on time without additional stress and appear for the examination with confidence.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the time, hard work and future of the youth are extremely important and added that the government is committed to ensuring students receive every possible support during their education and competitive examinations.

Good initiative, but honestly, we need more permanent solutions for students. What about improving bus frequency and reliability in general? Not just on exam days. Also, many aspirants come from outside Delhi and might not know the bus routes. The government should set up help desks at major bus stops too.
A small but meaningful gesture. 👍 I remember how nervous I was driving to my medical entrance exam. For students from lower-income families, this free bus service could be a real lifesaver. Hope other states follow Delhi's lead!
Bhenchod, yeh toh achha kiya! But can we also get free Metro for NEET candidates? DTC buses can get stuck in traffic jams. At least on exam day, they should ensure dedicated lanes for buses carrying students. Otherwise free travel ka kya fayda agar late ho jayenge? 😅
Nice to see governments thinking about students' mental well-being during exams. But I hope they also focus on reducing exam center allocation issues. Many students get centers far from their homes. Free buses are great, but better center allotment would be even more helpful.
Impressive public policy! In the US, students usually have to rely on parents driving them or paying for ride-shares on exam days. This is a smart, equitable solution that removes financial barriers. Also appreciate the mention of hydrogen fuel cell buses - Delhi is thinking long-term! 🌱
