New Delhi, June 14

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will lead the 'Maa Yamuna Tat Swachhata Abhiyan' on Sunday, which will include voluntary service at 28 ghats along the river.

Chief Minister Gupta will join thousands of citizens at the Geeta Colony Ghat in voluntary service and strengthen the collective resolve for a clean Yamuna.

Ministers of the Delhi government and Members of Parliament will also participate in the campaign, and Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra will offer voluntary service at Yamuna Bank.

This special campaign will be conducted at the Yamuna ghats from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. with volunteers collecting litter on the banks.

Chief Minister Gupta said that the Yamuna is not merely a river but a cultural, religious and environmental heritage of Delhi.

The protection and cleanliness of the Yamuna are not only the responsibility of the government but also the duty of every citizen, she said.

The campaign is being organised with the objective of taking this message to the people and encouraging collective participation.

"The cleanliness of the Yamuna is not a one-day programme but a continuous public movement that requires the participation of every section of society," she said.

The campaign will be conducted simultaneously at several prominent locations, including Chilla Village Ghat, Nizamuddin Ghat, Thokar No. 14 Geeta Colony Ghat, Thokar No. 18 Gandhi Nagar Ghat, Purana Lohe Pul Ghat, Signature Bridge-Wazirabad Ghat (Eastern Bank), Dedh Pushta Ghat (Sonia Vihar), Chautha Pushta Ghat (Sonia Vihar), Kartavya Kunj Ghat (West Bank), Hathi Ghat near the ITO Old Railway Bridge, Ram Ghat, Kali Ghat, Shyam Ghat, Yamuna Bank, Yamuneshwar Ghat, Wazirabad Yamuna Biodiversity Park (Right Bank), Railway Bridge Yamuna Bank, ITO Downstream Western Bank-1, ITO Downstream Western Bank-2, ITO Upstream Right Bank, Sarai Kale Khan R/B, Thokar No. 13, Kunderiya Ghat, Nigam Bodh Ghat, Eastern Bank Downstream Wazirabad, and Kalindi Kunj Downstream (Eastern Bank), among other key locations.

Around 500 social, religious, educational and voluntary organisations, along with thousands of volunteers and Delhi residents, will participate in the mega campaign.

To ensure broad public support and participation, Members of Parliament, senior public representatives and other distinguished personalities will also be present at different locations.

Great initiative by CM Gupta ji! 🙏 But honestly, the real issue is the untreated industrial waste being dumped upstream. We need regular monitoring and strict action against factories. Voluntary service is good, but it won't solve the root problem without enforcement. Still, kudos for starting something!

As someone who moved to Delhi for work, this is encouraging. In Canada, we have regular river cleanups but they're backed by strict pollution laws. Hope Delhi can balance public participation with regulatory action. The 28 ghats coverage seems ambitious - let's see how many actually get proper post-cleanup maintenance.

I'll be at the ITO Downstream location tomorrow morning! 🌅 My father used to bathe in Yamuna in the 80s - now we can't even touch the water. This needs to be a sustained movement, not a media event. Also, where's the plan for the 10,000+ litres of sewage entering daily? Clean banks are useless if the water remains toxic.

6am start is ambitious for Delhiwallahs! 😄 But seriously, this is a step in the right direction. I've seen similar drives in London where community groups maintain stretches of the Thames. The key is consistent weekly efforts, not just one mega event. Hope they provide proper gloves and waste segregation at all 28 ghats.

Respect to CM Gupta for leading from the front! 👏 But I'm skeptical - we've had countless 'Save Yamuna' campaigns since the 90s. The difference this time should be concrete action: stopping the 20 untreated drains, planting native trees on banks, and involving RWAs
