Delhi Assembly Monsoon Session from Aug 7

The Delhi Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on Tuesday decided to call for the Monsoon Session of the Assembly from August 7 to August 11, an official said.
The Chief Minister said that serious and meaningful discussions regarding important issues related to Delhi's development and public welfare schemes would take place during this session.
She said the government is committed to making necessary decisions, prioritising the public interest above all else, and implementing them effectively.
The Delhi Assembly session has been called within days of the proposed start of registration from August 1 for beneficiaries of the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana under which over 17 lakh women would receive Rs 2,500 every month.
Earlier in the day, the Cabinet approved the 'Delhi Lakshmi Yojana' (DLY), marking a significant step towards the economic empowerment and social security of women.
The scheme's guidelines were approved at the Cabinet meeting. The scheme aims to strengthen women economically while empowering them socially. A provision of Rs 5,110 crore has been made for the scheme in the 2026-27 Budget.
The Chief Minister said the scheme will cover eligible women between 21 and 60 years of age whose family income is up to Rs 2.50 lakh per annum. The scheme will initially be implemented for three years from the date it comes into effect. It may thereafter continue with suitable modifications.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said eligible women will have two options for receiving the monthly assistance of Rs 2,500. Under the first option, Rs 1,500 will be deposited in an RD/FD, while Rs 1,000 will be credited to a CBDC Digital Rupee Wallet.
The amount credited to the Digital Wallet can be spent only on permitted goods and services as specified under the government's prescribed Negative List.
Under the second option, beneficiaries may choose to receive the entire Rs 2,500 in an RD/FD. This option is intended to help women build long-term savings and capital.

Good initiative but why only women? Men also face economic challenges. And what about the families earning just above 2.5 lakh? They are struggling too. Government needs to widen the eligibility criteria. 😐
Finally a scheme that addresses financial independence for women! The CBDC digital rupee wallet is a forward-thinking move - digital payments are the future. But I worry about digital literacy among older women in Delhi's resettlement colonies. Hope the government runs awareness camps alongside.

The monsoon session from August 7 to 11 is too short for meaningful discussions on Delhi's development. But at least they are focusing on women's schemes. I hope they also address issues like pollution, water crisis, and infrastructure. 🤞
Rs 2,500 per month is a good start but with inflation these days, it won't go very far. Still, every bit helps for women in low-income households. The three-year pilot period is wise - lets them evaluate and adjust. Let's hope opposition parties cooperate in the Assembly for once! 😄
