"At critical juncture": Iran's Foreign Ministry pledges absolute allegiance to new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei

Iran's diplomatic corps formally declares allegiance to new Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, citing a "critical juncture."

"their allegiance to the Third Leader of the Islamic Revolution - Iranian Foreign Ministry"

New Delhi, March 9

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a formal declaration of allegiance to Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei following his appointment as the country's new supreme authority.

In a statement shared on X by the Iranian Embassy in India, the ministry confirmed its support following the transition of power. The post, titled "Declaration of Allegiance by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and All Diplomats of the Islamic Republic of Iran, at Home and Abroad, to the Third Leader of the Islamic Revolution," marks a significant consolidation of internal governance.

Acknowledging the recent period of regional instability, the ministry opened its declaration by "paying tribute to the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution and to a number of the country's senior commanders and distinguished compatriots who were martyred during the brutal aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime against the Iranian nation over the past eleven days."

The diplomatic apparatus formally extended its support to the new successor chosen by the clerical establishment. The statement "congratulates His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei on his worthy selection as the Third Leader of the Islamic Revolution, in accordance with the principles of the Constitution and by the decision of the Assembly of Experts for Leadership."

The ministry further noted that this congratulatory message is extended both "to His Eminence and to the great people of Iran."

Addressing the current geopolitical climate, the declaration emphasised that the nation is at a "critical juncture" while facing "continued military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime." The ministry asserted that the election of the new Leader "by the decisive vote of the representatives of the people in the Assembly of Experts and with the comprehensive support of the Iranian nation will undoubtedly ensure unity and cohesion among Iranians, as well as the independence, national sovereignty, and territorial integrity of our dear country."

In a formal pledge, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all diplomats, both inside and outside the country, officially declared "their allegiance to the Third Leader of the Islamic Revolution." The diplomats renewed "their commitment to His Eminence and to the great nation of Iran to continue their tireless efforts in advancing the national interests of Iran and in achieving the noble objectives of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Interesting to see the diplomatic machinery fall in line so quickly. The mention of "critical juncture" and "continued military aggression" suggests the new leadership is preparing for a very confrontational stance with the West. This could complicate things for India's diplomacy.

The statement reads more like a military briefing than a foreign ministry declaration! So much focus on martyrs and aggression. As an Indian, my primary concern is whether this affects oil prices or security in the Strait of Hormuz. Our economy can't handle another spike.

Respectfully, the article just parrots the Iranian ministry's press release. It would be more useful to have analysis on what this means for the average Iranian, or for India-Iran relations. The "decisive vote" and "comprehensive support" mentioned seem like standard regime rhetoric.

Internal matters of Iran are for Iran to decide. India's focus should remain clear: protect our interests, ensure the flow of affordable energy, and keep the Chabahar project on track. Geopolitical shifts are constant; our policy should be steady. 🇮🇳

The allegiance is declared by diplomats "at home and abroad". Makes you wonder about the pressure on Iranian diplomats in Indian cities like Delhi or Mumbai to toe the new line. Hope our government is reading the situation carefully.
