Congress has begun the process of government formation in Keralam where the party-led UDF registered a thumping victory in the assembly polls.

Sources said that the party has appointed its leaders, Ajay Maken and Mukul Wasnik, as observers to know the views of its newly-elected MLAs to decide the choice of Chief Minister.

The Congress won 63 seats in the 140-member Keralam assembly. Its allies also performed well, with IUML getting 22 seats. Congress-led UDF ousted LDF from power after 10 years.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday congratulated UDF leaders and workers for the alliance's victory in the Keralam assembly polls and said he looked forward to visiting the state soon.

In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi also thanked people of the state for expressing faith in the Congress-led alliance.

He said the UDF government will harness the talent and potential of Kerala.

"Thank you to my brothers and sisters in Keralam for a truly decisive mandate. Congratulations to every UDF leader and worker for a hard-fought, well-run campaign," he said.

"As I said before, Keralam has the talent, Keralam has the potential and now Keralam has a UDF government with a vision to harness both. I look forward to seeing my Keralam family soon," he added.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her gratitude to people of Keralam for their support to the UDF in the assembly polls, saying they will strive to fulfill commitments with honesty and humility.

In a post on X, Priyanka Gandhi also said people of Wayanad have renewed their faith in UDF by giving all seven seats in the district.

I sincerely hope that our gratitude to you will be evident each day of the next five years as we strive to fulfill our commitments to you with honesty and humility," she said.

"To my family in Wayanad, you have renewed your belief in the UDF with a resounding mandate - 7 out of 7 seats!! You now have 8 representatives working together towards the development of Wayanad! We will do all we can to live up to your expectations," she added. She also lauded party workers for their work in the UDF's victory.

"To the workers and leaders of the UDF who worked day and night to take our message of a united and progressive Keralam to every household, my heartiest congratulations, best wishes and gratitude for your tireless efforts. May the next five years strengthen your resolve to serve the people of Keralam," she said.

Happy to see Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi showing genuine gratitude. But I'm concerned - will this government actually deliver? We've seen many promises before. Kerala needs better infrastructure, job creation, and healthcare. Let's hope UDF focuses on development rather than just photo-ops.

As someone who follows Indian politics from abroad, this seems like a strong mandate. Congress really needs to capitalize on this momentum in other states too. But the CM choice will be crucial—Kerala has always had strong, locally-rooted leaders like Chandy and Achuthanandan. Hope they choose wisely. 🤞

The fact that Congress needs 'observers' to decide CM shows how centralized the party still is. Kerala MLAs should have the autonomy to choose their own leader. That said, I'm cautiously optimistic. The UDF victory is a clear rejection of the previous government's failures. Let's see if they've learned from past mistakes.

Interesting how Rahul Gandhi emphasized 'Keralam' instead of Kerala—shows he's connecting with regional identity. But I hope this isn't just symbolic. The real test will be governance. Priyanka Gandhi's message about Wayanad winning all 7 seats is heartwarming though. The people there clearly trust the Gandhi family.

As a Malayali, I'm happy but also worried. The IUML's 22 seats mean Congress will have to manage coalition dynamics carefully. The previous LDF government had its issues but at least had stability. Hope Maken and Wasnik handle this sensitively. Kerala deserves good governance after all these years of political drama. 🙏
