The appointments follow detailed reviews by AICC observers who engaged with grassroots leaders and workers. The revamp aims to build a more accountable and people-centric party structure through a bottom-up approach.

Cong names 9 district unit chiefs in Tripura as part of nationwide 'Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan'

New Delhi/Agartala, June 2 Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday appointed Presidents of nine organisational district units of the party in Tripura as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening the organisation and enhancing its connect with people at the grassroots level, party leaders said.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said in a statement that the Congress President has approved the proposal for the appointment of Presidents of the District Congress Committees (DCCs) in Tripura.

"These appointments are made as part of the 'Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan' (organisational revamp campaign). Under this initiative, AICC observers assigned to each district conducted detailed reviews, engaged with party functionaries and other stakeholders, and submitted their comprehensive reports. Following the submission of these reports, one-to-one discussions were held with each observer as well as with senior party leaders before finalising the appointments," Venugopal said, who is also the Lok Sabha member from Kerala's Alappuzha constituency.

Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha said that nine central party observers visited all nine organisational districts of the state and interacted extensively with grassroots-level leaders and workers before submitting their reports to the AICC for the appointment of the new district presidents.

According to Saha, the newly appointed district presidents reflect the Congress' emphasis on social inclusiveness, with representation from Tribal communities, Scheduled Castes, women, Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and youth leaders.

"Moving away from the party's earlier practices, leaders at the state, district and block levels are now being appointed on the basis of opinions and recommendations received from grassroots workers and local leaders. This approach is being implemented across the country," Saha, a former MLA, told IANS.

He said that the bottom-up approach would further strengthen the party organisation and make it more responsive to the aspirations and concerns of the people.

Another Congress leader said that the party launched the 'Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan', a nationwide organisational transformation campaign, following the recent AICC session held in Ahmedabad.

"This initiative is aimed at building a stronger, more accountable and people-centric party structure, beginning with the District Congress Committees. The objective is to create an organisation that is more connected to the people and better equipped to address local issues and aspirations," the Congress leader added.

According to the Congress leader, the 'Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan' is a transparent process within the Congress family to entrust dedicated, high-performing party workers with greater responsibility.

Finally some proper organisational work! Congress has been sleeping in the Northeast for too long. Appointing district presidents based on grassroots feedback sounds promising, but I hope they don't forget about the local issues like unemployment and infrastructure that Tripura faces daily.

As someone from Tripura, I have mixed feelings. While it's good that Congress is restructuring, this 'Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan' sounds like another top-down exercise. The disconnect between Delhi and state units has been a major issue. I hope the new DCC presidents actually listen to local workers and not just follow orders from above.

Interesting to see Congress focusing on organisational revival after the Ahmedabad AICC session. The inclusion of tribal communities and women in district leadership is impressive for a state like Tripura where tribal issues are critical. Let's hope this isn't just a photo-op exercise.

'Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan' - sounds good on paper. But Congress has done this before, announced grand organisational changes then fizzled out. The real test is whether these district chiefs can actually challenge the BJP-IPFT combine in Tripura. I'd like to see some concrete action beyond appointments. 🙏

A much-needed step for Congress in the Northeast. The party has neglected states like Tripura for too long. The bottom-up approach with feedback from grassroots workers is a smart move. But I wish they had done this before the 2023 assembly elections. Better late than never, I guess. 😊
