Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday chaired a series of high-level review meetings with key departments to assess the progress of major government schemes and infrastructure projects aimed at accelerating the state's development journey.

Sharing details of the meetings in a post on X, the Chief Minister said the discussions focused on strengthening the implementation of initiatives under the "Double Engine Government" and ensuring the timely delivery of commitments made to the people of Assam.

In a meeting with the Finance Department, Sarma reviewed preparations for the upcoming state Budget and discussed measures to fulfil promises made by the government to the people.

"Throughout the day, I chaired meetings with key departments to review the progress of schemes of our Double Engine Govt, which will give thrust to Assam's development journey," the Chief Minister said in his post.

During a separate review meeting with the Health Department, Sarma discussed a range of issues related to strengthening the healthcare sector in the state.

The discussions included strategies to reduce the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) to below the national average by 2029, fill manpower shortages in hospitals, upgrade healthcare facilities in tea garden areas, and continue free diagnostic programmes.

The Chief Minister also reviewed follow-up action arising from the recently organised Mega Health Camps and assessed the progress of several key health initiatives being implemented across the state.

In another meeting, Sarma held discussions with officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and National Highways Infra Management Limited (NHIML) regarding the progress of major ongoing infrastructure projects in Assam.

The projects reviewed included the proposed Gohpur-Numaligarh Tunnel, the Guwahati-Silchar Expressway, the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor and the Kamakhya Ropeway project, among others.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to fast-track ongoing projects and ensure their timely completion while maintaining the quality of work.

The meetings are part of the Assam government's broader push to improve infrastructure, healthcare and governance delivery across the state.

Double Engine Government is working hard! But I hope they also focus on rural road connectivity, not just big highway projects. My village in Dhemaji still struggles with basic roads during monsoon. Let's hope the Budget preparations include more funds for rural infrastructure too. 🤞

Impressive review schedule. The Guwahati-Silchar Expressway will significantly reduce travel time and boost business connectivity. However, I'm skeptical about the Kamakhya Ropeway project's environmental impact assessment. Hope due diligence is done before fast-tracking. Infrastructure with proper planning is key.

Free diagnostic programmes are a blessing for low-income families. My aunt got her diabetes detected through one such camp. But manpower shortage in hospitals is a serious issue - in many government facilities, patients wait for hours. Filling these vacancies should be top priority. Double Engine ka pura zor lagana hoga! 🙏

Good to see Assam prioritizing healthcare and infrastructure simultaneously. The Gohpur-Numaligarh Tunnel project will be a engineering marvel if executed well. But I hope the state government also monitors the quality of work by NHAI - many projects in other states have faced delays due to contractors compromising quality. Consistency is crucial.

CM Sarma is setting new standards for governance in NE India! The attention to detail - from Budget to health to highways - shows commitment to 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'. Just hope the promises made to tea garden workers about better healthcare are met with strict timelines. Development shouldn't leave behind our most vulnerable communities. 🇮🇳
