MP CM Mohan Yadav launches water conservation drive till June 30, reviews Simhastha 2028 infrastructure in Ujjain, stressing public participation.

"Water is life, and our government is continuously working to strengthen water conservation structures across Madhya Pradesh. - Mohan Yadav"

Ujjain, May 15

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday said that the state government will run a large-scale water conservation campaign till June 30 to mark Ganga Dussehra, stressing that public participation will be key to conserving rivers, ponds, canals, wells and other traditional water sources.

Yadav made the announcement during his visit to Ujjain, where he also reviewed ongoing development works for Simhastha-2028, including road widening and infrastructure projects at the historic Ram Ghat on the banks of the Shipra River.

The Chief Minister said the campaign would focus on reviving and preserving traditional water bodies through collective efforts involving local communities and government agencies.

"Water is life, and our government is continuously working to strengthen water conservation structures across Madhya Pradesh," he told reporters after the inspection.

He added that following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal, the state is encouraging public participation so that conservation efforts become a mass movement.

Yadav noted that the tradition of organising Shipra Parikrama and celebrating Ganga Dussehra in Ujjain was associated with the message of water conservation and environmental awareness.

The state government intends to further expand such initiatives in the future, he said.

The Chief Minister also claimed that Madhya Pradesh currently ranks first in the country in water conservation-related efforts.

Referring to a recent review at the Union Jal Shakti Ministry, he said the state was progressing steadily in the sector and expressed confidence that the momentum would continue.

Earlier, Yadav inspected infrastructure works being carried out for Simhastha-2028 and reviewed preparations aimed at improving civic amenities, traffic management and facilities for pilgrims expected to visit Ujjain during the mega religious congregation.

"Our government is carrying out these projects with long-term planning. The objective is not only to make arrangements for Simhastha but also to ensure that residents and devotees benefit from the infrastructure for many years," he said.

The Chief Minister praised the coordinated efforts of the administration, public representatives and local residents in preparing for Simhastha-2028, describing Ujjain as a city of immense historical and spiritual importance.

As someone from Ujjain, I'm happy to see preparations for Simhastha 2028 starting early. But road widening near Ram Ghat - hope they don't damage the historical character of the ghat. Also, water conservation along Shipra is crucial, the river has been shrinking every year. 😔

MP number 1 in water conservation? Data says Gujarat and Rajasthan have done more work in watershed management. But if the campaign involves local communities genuinely, it can work. The key is public participation, not just government schemes. Let's hope this time it's different.

Linking Ganga Dussehra with water conservation is a smart move - taps into our cultural beliefs. But criticism: why only till June 30? Water conservation should be a year-round effort, not just a campaign. Still, better than nothing. 👍

Interesting to see MP prioritizing long-term infrastructure for Simhastha 2028. From a development perspective, that's smart planning. But hope the water conservation drive doesn't get overshadowed by event preparations. Both are important for Ujjain's future.

Shipra Parikrama and Ganga Dussehra have always carried the message of respecting water bodies. Good to see the government acknowledging that. But we need concrete steps - desilting of ponds, restoration of bawdis, and strict action against those dumping waste in rivers. Har ghar se ganda paani ja raha hai Shipra mein. 😢
