Chhavi Mittal celebrates four years of being cancer-free, calls it her 'new birth'

Actor Chhavi Mittal marks four years cancer-free, sharing an emotional video and note on healing, strength, and celebrating her 'new birth' after breast cancer.

"Today, I celebrate not just my new birth, my new identity, my growth and my strength, but I celebrate every cancer warrior who feels misunderstood, unheard, unseen and unappreciated. - Chhavi Mittal"

Mumbai, April 25

Actor and content creator Chhavi Mittal seems to have been extremely emotional as she marked four years of her being declared cancer free.

The actress shared an emotional video and a heartfelt note on social media, and reflected on her life-changing journey.

In the video, Chhavi opened up about the defining and tough moments of her life. She said, "There are many moments in life after which life is never the same anymore. For me, it was the time I left my parents' house and came to Mumbai to build a career, then motherhood, and then four years ago, when I had breast cancer surgery. In these moments, you don't realise that everything is going to change."

She further added, "For a long time, you want things to be the same again. But things never become the same again, not because life has become worse, but because life has become better."

Addressing facing criticism and trolls who asked her stop talking about her cancer and accused her playing victim card, she said, "Even today, after four years, when somebody trolls me and says, 'Enough is enough, stop talking about cancer,' I just smile within and feel that there has never been a life-changing moment in their life."

Highlighting the emotional journey of healing, Chhavi shared, "Today, I celebrate not just my new birth, my new identity, my growth and my strength, but I celebrate every cancer warrior who feels misunderstood, unheard, unseen and unappreciated. I see you, I hear you, and I appreciate you."

She concluded her message saying, "Happy birthday to me."

Through the caption, Chhavi write, "Even though nobody remembers, I can never forget.

25.04.2022. The first day of my new life when I was going to rediscover myself. I was going to re-meet myself, re-understand myself, re-love, re-shape, re-build myself."

She added, "4 years ago, today, is when I was officially declared 'cancer-free' after a 6 hour long surgery, but I lived the journey beyond it.. because that is where everyone leaves you and walks away, assuming that healing has 'happened'. But healing had just begun."

She added, "Healing is an unbelievably non-linear process. It's almost disappointing and impossible to measure. So some days.. I'm healed.. and some days, I'm a wreck. Which is why.. one day at a time.. is the only way to exist for me. Nevertheless. It's a day to celebrate. New life. #happybirthdaytome

For the uninitiated, Chhavi was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022 and underwent a six-hour-long surgery as part of her treatment.

Ever since then, she has been vocal about her recovery journey, and uses her social media platform to spread awareness and inspire others battling similar challenges.

Her response to trolls is brilliant. Who are we to tell someone how to cope with trauma? If sharing helps her and inspires others, let her be. Her words "I smile within" show incredible maturity. More power to her!

While I'm happy for her recovery, I do feel some survivors can use their platform more to address gaps in our healthcare system. For many in small towns, getting timely diagnosis is still a struggle. But yes, every celebration matters. Happy for you, Chhavi!

"Some days I'm healed, some days I'm a wreck" - this hit home. We think once treatment ends, everything is fine. But the mental battle continues. My mother went through similar and she still says healing is a daily choice. Chhavi, you're an inspiration! 🎂✨

The line "things never become the same again, not because life has become worse, but because life has become better" is beautiful. It's a lesson for all of us dealing with change. Also respect her for shutting down the victim card nonsense. People need empathy, not criticism.
