Chhattisgarh: Centre clears EMC 2.0 project in Rajnandgaon to unlock Rs 3,000 Crore investments, 9,000 jobs

In a significant boost to India's electronics manufacturing ecosystem, the Government of India has approved the establishment of an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh.
The approval is being seen as a major step towards positioning the state as an emerging destination for high-tech manufacturing. Under the leadership of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the project is expected to attract investments exceeding Rs 3,000 crore and generate nearly 9,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has approved central financial assistance of Rs 210.56 crore for the project, which has a total estimated cost of Rs 432.08 crore. The cluster will be developed by the Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation (CSIDC) over approximately 306 acres. It will provide ready-built factory spaces, reliable power and water supply, warehousing facilities and other modern industrial infrastructure, enabling companies to commence operations with minimal lead time.
Four anchor companies from the semiconductor, electric vehicle (EV) and smart electronics sectors have already expressed interest in setting up operations in the cluster. Their participation reflects the growing confidence of technology-driven industries in Chhattisgarh as a competitive investment destination. Industry experts believe the project has the potential to become a key driver of the state's next phase of industrial growth.
The Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw for the approval. He said the decision reflects the increasing confidence of investors in Chhattisgarh and reaffirmed the State Government's commitment to preparing local youth with industry-oriented skills so they can benefit from the employment opportunities created by the project.
The EMC 2.0 project is expected to further strengthen national initiatives such as Make in India, Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat by expanding India's electronics manufacturing capacity, component production and value addition. It also marks an important milestone in Chhattisgarh's emergence as one of India's promising electronics manufacturing destinations.

Finally, something promising coming out of Rajnandgaon! We've heard so many announcements before, but this one with MeitY backing seems concrete. ₹3,000 crore is no small amount. But wait - will the electricity supply really be "reliable"? Our state has had its share of power issues. I'm optimistic but watching closely. Also, EVs and semiconductors? Those are the future. As someone who did a business trip to Raipur last year, the infrastructure development there is impressive. This EMC project is a natural extension. India is smartly using its domestic market to attract investment. The semiconductor sector is booming, and setting up these clusters in non-metro areas is exactly how you develop a country evenly. Watch this space, it'll be a hub in 5 years.
This is good for the region, no doubt. But let's be honest - how many of these "9,000 jobs" will be menial assembly work and how many will be decent engineering roles? The anchor companies are from the semiconductor field, so let's hope the state government actually invests in the education to fill these roles. We can't be dependent on engineers coming from outside the state. That said, the greenfield opportunity is huge. Kudos to the central and state govt for this initiative. 🙏
Interesting development. Electronics manufacturing is rapidly moving from China to India, and initiatives like this show the government is serious about capturing that shift. However, I hope the "cost of doing business" doesn't come down to just land and labor. The state needs to ensure ease of exit, clear environmental approvals, and logistical connectivity - especially beyond just roads. Rajnandgaon is a smart location though, close to the Chhattisgarh industrial corridor.
