Since August last year, the university's senior-most professor, Shyamal Das, has been serving as the officiating Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University.
Tripura University was established by the state government on October 2, 1987, and was later upgraded into a Central University on July 2, 2007, under the Tripura University Act, 2006, enacted by Parliament.

One year is too long for a central university to be without a regular VC. Hope the selection process was thorough and transparent. Academic appointments should not be delayed like this.
Having someone from Assam government is interesting. Maybe he brings experience of working across state boundaries. Tripura University needs to focus on research and industry linkages. All the best to the new VC! 🤞
Good to see the vacancy filled, but I wish the appointment had come earlier. Students and faculty must have suffered due to lack of permanent leadership. Hope the new VC prioritizes campus development and student welfare.
Impressive that the university has 68 affiliated colleges! That's a huge responsibility. Hope the new VC can improve quality across all institutions. Northeast education needs more attention from the Centre.
Central universities in small states often get neglected. Tripura University has potential. Hope Dr. Das focuses on digital infrastructure and research collaboration with other institutes. Wishing him a successful tenure! 🙂
