"Self-enumeration is essential for ensuring a credible and inclusive Census, as it allows citizens to directly contribute to nation-building - Lt Gen K.T. Parnaik"

Itanagar, April 24

As part of the Census 2027 process, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K.T. Parnaik completed his self-enumeration at Lok Bhavan, Itanagar, on Friday, setting an example for citizens to actively participate in this crucial national exercise.

A Lok Bhavan official said that while interacting with the enumeration team, the Governor emphasised that self-enumeration is essential for ensuring a credible and inclusive Census, as it allows citizens to directly contribute to nation-building through accurate representation of their families, communities and regions.

He highlighted that reliable census data forms the backbone of planning for schools, hospitals, roads, welfare schemes and broader development policies, making self-enumeration a key pillar in realising the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Appealing to citizens to participate with sincerity and awareness, Lt Gen Parnaik (Retd) said that self-enumeration goes beyond being a statistical exercise and represents a vital civic responsibility.

He noted that it plays a critical role in assessing needs, ensuring fair allocation of resources and strengthening good governance.

The Governor also urged the Census team to ensure that every household is counted, every voice is heard and no one is left behind, adding that active public participation will contribute to building a stronger and more developed India.

A team from the Directorate of Census Operations, Shillong, led by Director Biswajit Pegu, along with officials from the Department of Economics & Statistics, led by Anu Singh, Secretary-cum-State Nodal Officer, Census-27, briefed the Governor on the Census process and its modalities.

They informed that the self-enumeration phase under House Listing Operations, which began on April 16, will continue until April 30, 2026, during which citizens can complete the process online.

This will be followed by House Listing fieldwork from May 1 to May 30, 2026, when Census enumerators will visit households for data collection.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also actively participated in the exercise from Itanagar and Namsai, respectively, on April 16.

Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Mein described Census 2027 as a vital national exercise that supports development planning and strengthens public service delivery through the use of reliable and comprehensive data.

I really appreciate this civic push. But honestly, even in metro cities, many people don't know the self-enumeration process exists. The government should run more awareness ads in local languages, especially in rural areas. Without that, "no one left behind" remains just a slogan. Hope the Census team reaches every remote village in Arunachal!

Great initiative, but I have a small concern. In border areas like Tawang or Anjaw, internet connectivity is still patchy. How will people in those areas do self-enumeration online till 2026? The offline field work from May 2026 is good, but what about the data gap in between? Hope the govt has thought of this.

Exactly! Census data is the real blueprint for development. Proud of Lt Gen Parnaik for setting this example—he's a true Karmayogi! 🙏 If every citizen does their bit, Viksit Bharat is achievable. From small villages to major cities, accurate data can transform lives. Let's all self-enumerate and be part of this national movement.

This is a smart approach—self-enumeration reduces errors and saves enumerator time. In the US, census participation is mandatory, but here it's more about civic duty. Love that the Arunachal CM and Deputy CM also participated. Setting example from the top. Hope more states adopt this digital-first model.

Good step but I worry about data privacy. We are giving personal info online—how secure is the Census portal? The govt should assure citizens that data won't be misused or leaked. Also,
