Patna, Aug 17

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar visited Nalanda on Monday and interacted with Booth Level Officers from five districts during a programme at the Sushma Swaraj Auditorium of Nalanda University.

Around 500 BLOs from Nalanda, Gaya, Nawada, Jehanabad and Sheikhpura participated in the 'Interaction with BLOs' event.

During the interaction, the CEC discussed the role of BLOs in strengthening the electoral process, transparency in elections and the effective use of technology.

He described Booth Level Officers as an important pillar of democracy and appreciated their work in maintaining electoral rolls and facilitating the election process.

A detailed discussion was also held on the concept of concurrent audit, under which political parties' Booth Level Agents scrutinise electoral rolls, Polling Agents monitor the voting process and Counting Agents oversee the counting process.

Gyanesh Kumar thanked the BLOs for their contribution and said their work in Bihar could serve as an example for the country and the wider world.

"I had the privilege of interacting with the Booth Level Officers. We discussed various aspects, including the electoral roll. I also thanked our Booth Level Officers for the exemplary work they have done -- setting a path not just for Bihar, but for India and the entire world," he said.

Before attending the BLO interaction, Gyanesh Kumar visited the ancient Nalanda University and the Hiuen Tsang Memorial Hall.

He expressed pride at visiting the historic site and said the remains of Nalanda offer a glimpse into the sophistication and advancement of Indian civilisation thousands of years ago.

Upon reaching Nalanda University, he was accorded a Guard of Honour.

Nalanda District Magistrate Udita Singh and Nalanda University's Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Sachin Chaturvedi welcomed the Chief Election Commissioner during his visit.

Gyanesh Kumar earlier visited Bihar before the 2025 Assembly election. He stayed for two days to assess the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in the state.
