Cannes Queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan exudes glam in Amit Aggarwal's sculptural gown
Cannes, May 22
Cannes veteran and Bollywood diva Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on Friday marked a stunning presence on the red carpet of the prestigious global film festival.
Her look was truly worth the wait. Fans had been eagerly waiting for her appearance as Aishwarya arrived during the last leg of the film festival.
Representing L'Oreal at the gala, Aishwarya opted for Amit Aggarwal's custom sculptural gown.
For this year's appearance, Amit Aggarwal designed Luminara, a couture creation centred around the idea of light in motion. The piece explores light not simply as illumination, but as energy, movement, and force; translated through sculptural construction and engineered craftsmanship.
At the core of the garment is Amit Aggarwal's signature Crystal Vein embroidery technique, developed over more than 1500 hours of meticulous handwork. Thousands of crystalline linear embellishments have been individually placed across the gown, held together through an intricate lattice-like structure that binds the crystal veins seamlessly across the body to create the effect of illuminated pathways moving across the body.
Designed to interact dynamically with movement and light, the embroidery continuously refracts and transforms as the wearer moves, giving the garment an almost kinetic quality, according to a press note.
Structured wing-like extensions emerging from the shoulders evoke movement and propulsion, while contouring the body with architectural sharpness. Rendered in an abyss blue, the couture piece references cosmic depth and the infinite nature of light travelling through space. Every surface of the garment has been constructed to respond to illumination, allowing the piece to visually evolve under different lighting conditions.
For Amit Aggarwal, the collaboration with stylist Mohit Rai and Aishwarya represents a convergence of cinematic presence and couture innovation.
"Aishwarya has always approached Cannes with a strong sense of individuality and evolution. With Luminara, Mohit and I wanted to create something that felt less like a garment and more like an energy field around her. The piece explores the idea of light as strength, movement, and transformation; while honouring the extraordinary radiance she has carried through decades on the global stage" said Amit Aggarwal.
Aishwarya was all hearts as she happily posed for the shutterbugs at The French Riviera. Now, fans can't wait to see what she'll wear for the closing ceremony.

Honestly, the gown is beautiful but it's a bit too much for my taste. The wing-like extensions feel a little overdone, like she's trying too hard. Still, she's Aishwarya Rai, so she makes it work, but I prefer her simpler looks from earlier years. Just my opinion.
This is pure art! The concept of light as energy and movement is so innovative. Hats off to Amit Aggarwal and Mohit Rai for creating something so unique. Aishwarya looks ethereal, like a celestial being. 🇮🇳✨
As an American, I have to say Aishwarya Rai is one of the most beautiful women in the world. This gown is incredible – the craftsmanship with 1500 hours of handwork is mind-blowing. She carries it with such poise. Stunning!
Bharat ki beti ka global level pe dhamaka! 🔥 Aishwarya always makes us proud on the world stage. The gown is a perfect blend of Indian craftsmanship and modern design. Waiting for the closing ceremony look!
She's a fashion icon no doubt. But I'd love to see something more bold and experimental from her, like her early Cannes looks. This is elegant, but a bit safe. Still, she looks regal.
